On watch with the NCI, currently sitting in a little hut, looking at the sun shining on the sea. Nothing to disturb the peace, 2 boats in sight, both on the mussel beds.

Had my first ever plate of pie 'n' mash.
I doubt I'll ever have another.

Jellied eels. Again, had once, never again. Not so much the eels, but the texture of the jelly.
Smoked eels, mind. Now they're lovely.

I'm starving now. All I've had all day is cheese and biscuits with some rabbit food!

I bet I'd go like a missile down those slopes on my mountain bike, it would probably end in tears though.Noggin wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 8:56 pm I did First Tracks this morning - AWESOME views. Then did a short ski attempting more improvement - man my legs ache!
Then did a 5 hour shuttle bus shift over in Les Arcs and made some office folks laugh - I think I brightened their day rather than them laughing at me!! LOL

Re: What have you done today thread?
Thank you. It's an iPhone 8 (I think). Once I've sorted a back pack for the DSLR, and when I can lift it to my eye without it hurting, I'll be taking that up instead!!
Gotta be worth having a go with a 'proper' camera!!
I did used to do a lot of photography, but more sports based, in the past. But I quite when digital came in as I didn't have the computer or ability to do digital - really struggled with the change!! But need to learn as I have a lifetime of photos I could take up here - the fitter I get the more opportunity to take amazing photos at different times of day!!
It's in La Plagne. These photos were the top of the Grand Rochette - via cable car out of Plagne Centre
Come out in the summer and try it!! LOL No snow then and much warmer!!MingtheMerciless wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 4:27 pm

Re: What have you done today thread?
I've had the best day.
I've been trying some different skis to try and get my confidence back. Today I changed the really short ones for slightly less short (but still 7cms shorted than the ones I own!). But damn these were good. Between the dinky ones and these I've really built some confidence back
Also helped by skiing with some friends I've known here for years. But rarely skied often because when I first came out my free time to ski didn't really match with when they were about and the last four years it's been challenging shoulderwise (amazing how much a shoulder can hurt from skiing - even if you don't fall!!)
Anyway - today I met them about 10.15 and we skied for about 4 hours. Well, I bailed on one run - it's rarely open and I know it's no longer pisted. I went and did some more sensible runs!! But, they do ski VERY fast (they've lived out here for about 25 winters and both their kids are instructors in Val d'Isere!!). They took me down two quite long reds, the second being the last run!! But damn it was fun. I felt like a bit of a beginner on the reds but two of the group waited for me in a couple of places on the last run just so I had some company! But bloody hell - I've managed to improve in the last 4 days!! Very small side bonus to having no brits for a couple of weeks - time to relearn to ski!!
Then we stopped at a bar that we all know. I've known the owner for about 7 years, my friends have known him for about 25!! So it was fun! Huge amounts of laughter and despite my good intentions, huge amounts of alcohol!! Ok, I managed to keep it down to two (I think, may have been three!) but over here a rum and lemonade is probably 3 or 4 shots per glass!! So it's a lot!! Still, worth it for all the very loud laughter and silliness!!!
Had to run to get a bus to make it for my online French lesson (I already asked her to delay it by half an hour!!) - but so worth it! Sat in ski gear (including my boots, didn't have time to take them off first!) and had a 30 minute lesson. Such a laugh. Told her about making people laugh with how I say "salut" and other stuff. Brilliant to have a conversation/lesson with someone you can laugh with
Just finishing a BIG glass of water and then heading to bed. Probably my first time to get first lifts tomorrow for a few days, and I don't want to waste any time out there

For somebody who could hardly dress herself a short time ago, you seem to be doing really well, skiing, driving, on the bike etc. It must feel great, so congrats and well done for your persistence and hard work. Onwards/upwards (and downwards re skiing....)!

Re: What have you done today thread?
Well done BY (and BR). DVSA really are law unto themselves.
If it's any consolidation, I nearly failed the MSF instructor training course. 12 started, just 6 passed. They had a '2 lives then out on third' failure system. The problem there is that as more fail, your workload increases as you continually work to prepare (each evening for the next day) and present training (in pairs for each theory or practical session). At the time, I had 24 years' training training experience, from CBT, Part One, L test, through to advanced. And it was tough and exhausting.

It's been a tough 4.5 years TBF. I count myself incredibly lucky to have chosen to live in an area with seriously experienced surgeons and rehab teams!! Most physios/medics/surgeons would say I shouldn't be riding a bike or skiing - and probably not lifting luggage for customers either. But luckily, in this area, there's almost no point saying "don't continue with your sport" - hardly anyone would listen!! Ok, my physio up here has said no snowboarding and no off-piste - I've agreed to that for this winter!!
But yes, it's pretty bloody exciting. The worst really was losing my bottle on the slopes, but since I'm well on the way to getting it back, I'm very very happy
That's a bit harsh!! Not necessarily untrue, but definitely harshgremlin wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 12:30 pmIt would fall over after two fist pumps.Horse wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 10:47 pm《 there needs to be one of those with pink hairWossname wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 9:47 pm For somebody who could hardly dress herself a short time ago, you seem to be doing really well, skiing, driving, on the bike etc. It must feel great, so congrats and well done for your persistence and hard work. Re: What have you done today thread?
Been out there quite a few times, last time stayed in Les Coches, which was actually better than expected and easy access to the Vanoise Express as we prefer Les Arcs really. Had bad memories of La Plagne when a relative newbie to snowboarding - every piste seemed to be undulating and not enough confidence to blast downhill so resulted in what seemed like lots of walking
Seem to have had more than our fair share of dreary flat light there too unfortunately, not like your day I usually end up feeling sick if I spend any amount of time skiing (or even in bubbles) in flat light.
I think my downhill days are pretty much over now, did my ACL during an off-piste lesson at Val D'Isere and even an expensive custom knee brace doesn't stop me 'tweaking' it. As it functions pretty much perfectly 99% of the time I decided the lottery of reconstruction wasn't worth it

Not a lot. Skiving today and yesterday. Only went back to work on Wednesday as well but ended up feeling like shit with the flue. Not full on man flue just the lady light version. I blame that on not drinking for a few days so going to kill the germs tonight.

Re: What have you done today thread?
Just to be pedantic, it's 'flu', not 'flue'.
If you start talking about your 'man flue', people may get very confused.
