Except that must be a V7 not a II as the V50 covers don't fit the II without an adaptor plate :(

Today I finally got round to ordering some new rear shock springs.

Got a different guy at Hagon to to last time, the last bloke seemed to know a lot about suspension, but this guy lived it!

I must have been on the phone 30mins, explained the difference between rubber and nylon seals in the Nitro shocks, how I should be measuring spring length under preload rather than the rider sag from fixed points and how the springs on the Nitros were made out of a metal none of the other manufactures used!

They might be here tomorrow. If they are I'll fit them on Saturday, if I can Heath Robinson up some spring compressors.

Picked the springs up today from my local DHL drop off point (a corner shop).

Wound the preload up to max on the shocks, zip-tied them off.

Then stuck some zip-ties on the new springs, used my super human strength to compress them a bit and pull the zip-ties tight.

Shock off, bottom collet off, spring off, new spring on, collet back in place, re-fit.

Repeat.

Was sweating like a bastard in the garage, so didn't bother setting the pre-load. I'll do that before I take it out for a spin later in the week.

Hopefully there'll be an improvement. If not I might give up and trade it in for a R1200RT.

static sag is about 5mm, set the rider sag to around 35mm, which took a fraction of the pre-load that it did on the old springs.

At speed it works great.

On 30/40mph bumpy roads it still feels shite.

It doesn't bottom out anywhere near as often as it did on the old springs. I stopped to check twice and still had a good 5mm at least of travel left on the piston rod, it had only used it all when I got home, but I think it was probably a massive pot hole I hit, so not worried.

It occurred to me today that for the last 10 years I've been riding adv bikes on the road, with big wheels and long travel suspension. Maybe I just expecting too much from the V7, I need to blag a go on another one to see if it's just how they are.
