Comes down to the Henry dilemma of a male Heir and the political power of the Catholic Church and their interfering in secular affairs.
Mmm… read that back to yourself. :D
I did! But I am not a Bishop and nor do I ever want to be one! I think we all need to interfere in politics!

I can't believe in something that says that if we don't all conform to some centuries old writings, we are damned!! Surely people should strive to be kind without being threatened!!
To paraphrase Christopher Hitchens, nothing demonstrates the man made character of religion as obviously as the sick mind that designed hell.

I like the thing he said to the guy who was promoting his religion as very tolerant. In reply Hitchens said the bloke was claiming that his particular brand of religion was very good because it was watered down and wasn't actually very religious at all
Yeah, not sure the CofE actually bothers with religion any more. It certainly doesn’t bother with the bible.

Probably a good thing tbh.

Lots of religions come across as meek and loving now. I think it’s good to remember what nasty and barbaric pieces of work they were when they were stronger.

Many religions may come across as 'reasonable' in the UK, but you don't need to look too hard to find the zealots. And I am not just thinking of Islam here, plenty of other religions (including Christianity) have zealots available and just itching to get their hands on power.

First trip of the year moho shake down. We normally do a few nights on a Park Dean resort in March, just to get away and because it's very very cheap in the first week they're open (last week of March). Makes a change from the Park Dean at Withernsea.

Yebutt. The world's your lobster, you could have gone anywhere and you chose Hartlepool.

BTW I've never been to Hartlepool, maybe it's a nice place to hang out. :D

One might almost think the problem is people, not religion. :hmmm:

I live less than 10 miles from there. Fortunately you don't have to actually go into Hartlepool to get there. Unfortunately it's rather close to Peterlee

(Bad) people invented religions. Bad people use them to control others. In the UK most of the 'controlling' is fairly benign, but it is still coercive control and is arguably already illegal, but never prosecuted.

I think that humans inventing god caused the issue in the first place.

That's us lot in N.I.

The Catlicks believe all the Prods are going to hell.

The Prods believe all the Catlicks are going to hell.

The Free PressbuttonBs believe everyone aside from themselves are going to hell.

Well that's the thing about faith isn't it...

You may be completely wrong and we could live in some bizarre world where we DO go somewhere.... unless you can go there, how would you ever know. It's far from impossible...

But it's nice to think there's something.... because the alternative is quite frankly terrifying.

Youve been conditioned to think that.

Of course, because your opinion must be correct and mine must be incorrect.

How about mine is correct and yours is wrong ?

Well, opinions are like...

The comment about conditioning relates to the idea that if everyone thought that this was all there was, why would they not go off on a full-on hedonistic fireball?

It's the darkness.... and if i'll be aware of it.

I'm not sure what's worse.... the fact i'll know i'm gone, or the fact i'll never know anything again... will i know i don't know... or will i not... if i don't... that's... well... bad.
