I fitted new rollerblade style wheels to my pooter chair to save marking the wooden floor.

Are you wearing legs warmers and doing criss cross leg movements at the same time?

I'm quietly happy as I seem to be getting some ski confidence back. Slowly! Only good thing about not working is that I can ski pretty much every day. I mean, it's fab for rebuilding confidence but I would prefer the work (and income!!)

Ski lesson on the cards for one day next week hopefully :D

I paused my walk today to watch the aerobatics of two ravens. Creatures totally in tune with each other's every move, magnificent to observe and unnoticed by most walkers,or registered as a couple of crows flapping about.

You get crows in a crowery, but not ravens in a ravenery.

Apart from that, when they're flying, how do you tell them apart?

Other crows like crowds, but ravens like a twosome. Their size, vocalising and the distinctive fan shape tail feathers help too.

We often get over a dozen red kites over here (someone feeds them, although seagulls have cottoned on).

They is very big fookers ;)

We have some ravens up the hills behind my house although I haven't seen any of them since the fires in July. I'm guessing that they moved south - the fires to the north were worse but not that bad where they were.

I would see them up on the rocks quite a lot, sometimes in a group but usually I'd see them flying in a circle out over the bay, calling as they did so.

Crows are targets as are the many jays we have around here but the ravens are left alone. They may be corvids but they're no problem and good to watch.

I took this photo on the road from Devil's Bridge to Aberystwyth a few years ago. There are loads of red kites in the area, after a couple of days we had seen so many it wasn't worth remarking when we saw one.

Still very impressive creatures though

There was a Red Kite that lived somewhere not far from my old office, I used to see it all the time on lunch breaks (mine that is, not the Kite's). There was also a Barn Owl that lived somewhere at the bottom of the car park :D The poor old mice must've not stood a chance.

This is a kind of weird one. But it makes me smile - and laugh at the time!

We have shifts doing a shuttle bus over in Les Arcs. I did one of the first ones. We have to be let in and out of the bus station by pushing a button and saying something like "servis" or "la navette du Chantel" or something like that

So the first time I stopped I pushed the button and said "Salut. Je suis de Coolbus pour la navette du Chantel"

Now, in general the French are pretty formal and use Bonjour/Bon Soir as their greeting. In resort I always use "salut" - more like Hi than Good Morning/Day/Evening

The other thing I've noticed is that the French tend to use the greeting (whichever they use) in fairly subdued tones. Not exactly miserable, but solemn or formal. Even Salut!!

Turns out I don't do that  And pre-mask era my Salut was quite singsong-y and with a big smile.

The first shuttle shift I did, I realised by the end that I'd only get to say Salut and the guy would say something like "Je vous l'ouvre " (Took me a couple of shifts to work this out as I couldn't hear the " l' " to start with!!  )

But also, whoever answered when I pushed the button was giggling at my "Salut" and by the end of the shift, I could hear others in their office giggling too!!

Finally today, I talked to a French guy who was on the navette and I said that I didn't know why they laughed but it made me smile to bring a bit of a giggle to someone's day. He said that it's because I do "sal-ut" in a singsong/happy/cheery way. Which is unusual!!

Funny how simple it is to bring a bit of cheer to a boring office! I haven't done the shuttle since NYE, but I had two of the same people on the end of the buzzer today and by the end of her stint, the lady was responding to my "salut" with "coo-coo"!! Totally not the formal French way, but it made me smile and laugh and seemed to do the same to some random people in an office who also have to man entry and exit to a car park (I had to do a run every 30 mins, so I got to "salut" them quite a lot!! LOL)

They must get a lot of miserable bastard drivers pushing that button!! LOL
