Looks like the Met will get called in to investigate a possible breach of the law. If proven then it's difficult to see how Johnson, who attended the function on 20th May in the garden of No.10/11, could avoid being an accessory.

I think at worst, it will be £100 fine, non-recordable offence.
Anyway, I thought the Met didn’t investigate retrospective crimes!

Mr Johnson won't quit until Mrs Johnson tells him to. I wonder in what style the PM's flat will be decorated next.Mussels wrote: ↑Tue Jan 11, 2022 9:34 pm He might be so fed up by now he's ready to throw the towel in and go back to earning more money doing less work. I don't think it's necessary to get ALL the culprits just to prove the validity of one.
Possibly Boris should be made to suffer, and made an example of, because he's the current Prime Minister, alive and genuinely guilty and not the king of rock dead for five years and curiously slandered by internet vigilantes

He has always claimed that these were 'work' meetings, so ok.
Think how much better they could be running the country if they were sober.

I dunno, I play my best pool after two pints, but three totally ruins my game.
Bit of booze to loosen things up, hell I should try it at work.

Yeah they should definitely give Boris a free pass until they've rounded up all the dead paedos. But then I'm not a rightie.Potter wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 8:43 am
Not treating everyone fairly, for exactly the same offence, is the very definition of a corrupt legal system.
And prosecuting Boris for having a sneaky pint with his mates, whilst letting kiddly fiddlers walk is probably not how I'd do things, but then I'm not a leftie.

On the day of the alleged party, Oliver Dowden was the minister who led the government's televised Covid briefing.
"You can meet one person outside of your household in an outdoor, public place - provided that you stay two metres apart", he told the public.

Yeah they should definitely give Boris a free pass until they've rounded up all ex-leftie PMs. But then I'm not a rightie. Maybe they should dig up Thatcher and Churchill for war crimes?

Re: Boris - how much longer will he suvive?
This is what I love about Modern Politics (mainly Boris and Trump) and especially how they have "dealt with COVID". You can be shit at making decisions, woolly about what is right and wrong, come up with rules that are merely advice. And when you're called to account, it's whinge, whinge, whinge, I never said that and it's all fake news and lets concentrate on something I'd rather talk about. Feck me, he couldn't have been at a works do because he works from home?Potter wrote: ↑Wed Jan 12, 2022 9:30 am
Was Boris outside of his household? I thought he lived there?
I think he is guilty of having a drink with his wife in his own garden, at the same time as some other people decided to meet there after work.
For everyone else then it seems they're apparently guilty, although it is a lot of silliness, if they say they were working then it's legal, if they say they were in exactly the same place but not working, then it's illegal.
And if I was one of the people done for it then I'd be screaming bloody murder if they don't go ahead and do everyone else that broke the rules.
When I said love I actually meant hate. Yes, I'm full of hate like a caricature Leftie. FFS.

Household, not property But you knew that.
Remember though, for context, police were setting up roadblocks to check what the public were up to, and driving into parks to disperse groups.

Re: Boris - how much longer will he suvive?
Is this a new bad thing or something that has already been talked about weeks ago but rearing it's head?
Only asking as it seems like a rerun, but I've seen some random posts on FB that seem to be saying something new but I'm reading it as a rerun
Confused!!! Probably because I don't read English papers (internet sites of papers!) or listen to/watch the news
So this stuff is either a rerun of shit that's already been talked about or a new thing that I haven't seen/heard!!
But either way, my guess is the same will happen - lots of words thrown about and nothing will actually happen. Oh, maybe a lower member of staff will fall on a proverbial sword??

Re: Boris - how much longer will he suvive?
I'm not against the idea. If there is evidence to suggest that Hitler, The Devil, Keir Starmer, Jeremy Corbyn or Diane Abbott (a broad selection of imaginary, dead, Right and Left swinging Evil for you there) also broke the Rules then yeah crack on with the investigation - and if they brought the integrity of their Office into disrepute (I think probably The Devil and also Corbyn are on a last warning now) then they should resign.
But no, not if there are still dead rock-nonces to round up.
Yeah, of course it would be hilarious if the straw that broke the camels back for Boris (amongst his numerous, lies, incompetencies and failings) amounted to "having a pint in his garden". I'm sure he'll be fine writing newspaper columns and doing after dinner speeches about it to sycophants for decades. He'll probably even deign to have his plums pulled again on HIGNFY for you. He genuinely doesn't care because he's better than you. Tragic.

Re: Boris - how much longer will he suvive?
This is a new addition to the list.
Very senior official sends an email to 100 people saying "bring booze, let's enjoy the sun", tables set out for food. 30 - 40 attended.
Oh, and some No 10 staff allegedly questioned whether it was sensible.

Re: Boris - how much longer will he suvive?
Yesterday I heard 2 MPs ( in tears) saying they couldn't be with their dying parents in hospital, at same time as these parties. One sat in the car park crying so he could be near his mum for her last hours.
They were so angry and got lots of support from other MPs.

Re: Boris - how much longer will he suvive?
Out two-party system is on its knees.
The third party has been squeezed out - I don't think we can just say "yeah but the Libs are incompetent" that doesn't seem to be a good enough reason any more, it's because they aren't different enough. We find ourselves in a situation where you can be a massive, massive, incompetent twat and liar and still be appealing because you're politically the polar opposite of the other guy.
Also the frantic, celebrity, media-driven sound-bite way that politics is run these days makes it increasingly obvious those with real ability are avoiding it like a barge-pole. So we (they) get to choose our Leaders from a pool of those who are either : very, very average middle managers; traditional silver-spoon old etonians; activist cranks. Very few of our MPs who are competent genuinely want the shit that they would get raising their heads above the parapet - who would want that?
I never thought I'd say this but I'm coming around to thinking the proportional representation needs another look. Nothing will change whilst we continue to
- keep on with folk such as Boris, who has had a million chances to screw it up, but is still seen as "better than the alternative"
- vote in the alternative and suffer a new set of planks desperate to be different
If they were forced to collaborate, in order to form a government, would we start to move out of this? And make governing an attractive proposition for the more able?
