I am not recommending dying, but for some it is inevitable. We now have vaccines, and other improvements in medicine, that help a lot. However if Covid lasts 4 years (or 5 or 6) the world economy will grind to a halt and people will die. From starvation rather than Covid.

All I am saying is that the world needs to grow a pair. Sensible precautions (like vaccination and masks), and then get on with life. Freedom of choice, yes, refuse vaccination if you wish, but expect society (ie pubs/clubs/workplaces/shops/countries) to refuse you entry. Your choice.

That's pretty much where I am, with the caveat that if the health sevice looks like it may break down then some measures will need to be put in place. People drowning in their own lungs in hospital car parks won't look good on news at 10.

Well, they (the government) stopped the daily covid updates pdq because it was 99% criticism.

I felt it was more because there was nothing left to say. Plus the main criticisms that came from the press conferences involved barnard castle, wine and cheese, and wallpaper.

I'm not saying they've done a fantastic, joined up job. But I dont think they've done a huge amount wrong given the unpredictable nature of the pandemic. Sure with hindsight they may have made some strategy changes, but that's hindsight for you.

I think the public aren't expecting miracles, but they are expecting those at the top to observe same rules as the rest of us. So to say it's all cummings and cheese and wine is rather missing the point.

I wouldn't disagree, but I would argue that it's not a fundamental flaw in their handling of the pandemic.

It does when most of your "rules" are advisory based upon waffle and a sense of doing the right thing.

Well, I'd rather be trusted to use my own judgement and decide my risk level rather than a draconian lockdown. Wouldn't you?

Well, it would appear that Wee Jimmy Krankie is going to ease restrictions on sporting events just in time for the Scottish Premiership to resume. How convenient. Just in time for the Six Nations, as well.

Interestingly, the numbers show that Scotland had more infections the England, despite more stringent restrictions on people's liberty over Christmas and NY.

An old sometime biking buddy of mine has been a covid denier and anti-vaxer from the very outset and the lockdowns really impacted on his perhaps already delicate mental state. He was prone to outbursts in the street,railing against folk with masks and the whole social distancing bit.

I haven't seen him about for a few weeks and his wife stopped me today to say he'd tested positive and while he appeared to be getting better,he's taken a downturn and is in a coma in intensive care. The only hospital available was 70 miles away in Coleraine.

He'll not get much sympathy from most folk,but I'm personally sad he's having to learn the hard way.
