15th Jan, Surrey hills?

Post by weeksy »

Ive booked 2 demo bikes locally, 1 for me and 1 for the lad, but could ideally do with a guide who's been more than the once I've been.

Who's up for some fun?

Beany and Mr Moofo seem to have the 'local knowledge'. I've covered almost all of it...on foot
Where are you picking up the bikes? I'm up for a coffee in Peaslake if you're pit stopping there.

How long do you get the demo bikes for? They're a bit of a distance from what I'd call the SH even though they say 'in the heart of..'

4 hours apparently. If there's somewhere closer with decent testing terrain I'm more than up for hearing it though.

It's not really all about the days riding but about testing the 29 wheels and geometry. I'll be giving @Beancounter an idea of the sort of trails we're after to help

4 hours is pretty good, you can get across to Chinthurst Hill and the North Downs and south onto Peaslake, Holmbury/Leith/Pitch Hills on the Greensand Ridge which seems to be the destination of choice area. I'd be tempted to stick them on the trailer and cut the North Downs bit out but Beany is the man with the knowledge. Unfortunately Peasmarsh is in the flat bit between the hills so either direction (E or W) is up.

We'll have the bike rack fitted, if the daylight held we'd also ride after dropping them off, but in Jan that's unlikely

It would be fair to say that Beany ( @Beancounter seems to know the place like the back of his hand. I don't ( but would probably like to!) - If you followed me around there you would probably end up in Richmond.

What bikes are you demoing @weeksy ?

As CS says, Peasmarsh is flat for the Surrey Hills and it's not an area I'm overly familiar with. @weeksy do you think you'll have time to come east a bit to Peaslake? What kind of trails would you and James want to be doing? I'm guessing some jumps?

Tech more than jumps for me. Roots, steeps, rocks. But essentially just well, trails.

We'll go wherever you say. Even if it means we get 90 min riding, it's not about an epic riding day, bit about testing what we need.

I canned the Jeffsy loans, so we'll be on our own bikes for the day.

Big Dan and the 2 other teens are up for playing out too

Sadly no trains between Lewes/Brighton/Threebridges that weekend so I’m scuppered.

I did drop a hint about borrowing the car for the day but to say it fell on stony, gamma irradiated and cursed ground would be an understatement……….

My new brake caliper turned up today, will fit it this weekend so I’ll be good for next Saturday.

I will try and rearrange some stuff I had arranged - lets see.
The I could give @MingtheMerciless a lift.
Chances are I would on a HT as my rear shock is at TF Tuned for a service
