I've now done 650 miles on it, I think I've had it 3 weekends, maybe 4, it took me 3 years to do 3000 miles on my FZ.

Been out for an hours ride on it today, really enjoyed it, roads were a bit muddy and slippery in places but you can ride it like a big supermoto and it's fine.
It really is a hooligan bike, I found myself doing silly speeds.

Saw a black and white one today with a yellow belly pan, looked really nice, possibly would prefer a white belly pan but still nice. Headlight is nicer on the 750 than the 1000 imo.

Back in the late 90's, early 00's I had a R6. I rode all the other 600's and it was head and shoulders above everything else in the exciting engine stakes.
If you thought the R6 was dull you should have tried an SRAD 600.

The CB1000R was absolutely glorious a package, but the engine was just waaaaaaaaaah, waaaaaaaaah, without any redeeming features in it, it was fast of course, it's a 150+bhp naked.... but i didn't get off it thinking WOW in an engine context.... In 2003 I test rode a 2003 R6, I liked the engine but I also test rode a 2002 GSXR 750, which was just a much better bike, so I bought the GSXR.
I don't like 4 stroke twins, other people don't like inline 4s, so what, all it proves is that people are different, not that one engine is better than another.

I've just been reading a period 600 group test (it's your fault) and they rave about the original R6, it was a truly epic machine for it's time. The first proper 600 sports bike with the emphasis on 'sport'.

I can clearly remember when one of the monthlies (either Bike or Ride) did a "10 greatest bikes ever" feature and put the R6 in second place. I should imagine the GSXS is similar to the 06 Z750 I had. Whilst the motor loved to be trashed and made most of it's power up top it also had a nice usable midrange. Compared to the ZX6 my brother had at the time you'd have to often be changing gear twice as much as on the 750 for the same progress. Around town the 750 was fine just pootling around at 4-6k without needing to knock it down for overtakes like on my older Fazer but comparatively you still needed to rev it to get it really hauling.
I loved the Z and it's why I still fancy the GSXS now as it's a more modern improved version I'd imagine. I like working an engine to have fun.

I've still got a 98 model R6 as a track bike and had a 2004 R6 as a road bike. My biggest issue with the 2004 was it was crippling me when I commuted on it else I'd have kept it longer. The SRAD 600 was awful. I had a Fazer 600 at the time and the Fazer was better for anything but 10k rpm + on the Gixxer. It handled brilliantly but the engine was sooooo gutless except at extreme rpm.

I also rode a GSR600 in about 2005, it was the worst motorcycle engine I've ever used, it had a power band like an air cooled two stroke MX bike, but with four stroke power delivery once in that power band.

I had a 600 Hornet, more nimble than the 900 Hornet it replaced, but by fook it was hard work to ride! Party didn't get started until 10k, which may have been fun on the open road, but when commuting and looking for instant torque to blast through the opening gaps, it was pretty much useless. The SV650 that followed was a revelation...

That was the benefit of the Z, more midrange than the 600s. That model Z was France's top selling bike for a while I seem to recall.
