I think there’s all sorts of issues with the testing at the moment. I tested positive on an LFT before Xmas. Rightly or wrongly I didn’t bother reporting it but did isolate for 10 days. Wife and daughter subsequently tested positive but didn’t have a choice but to report due to their jobs.

It makes me wonder how many are actually reporting positive LFT results, if it’s more than about 60% I’d be surprised.

One of the kids school return date was delayed as they want all pupils to test first but stupidly give kids option of either going to school to test properly or test at home and register, but the app the school tells kids to use to register doesn't work and isn't enforced.
Why even bother in that case?

I know of more than one instance of people not being responsible. One is the 'guest' at at my friend's early christmas bash. Although TBF, I don't know if he did a test. But he was in contact with a couple that were positive and then shared that with the people at the christmas dinner

Another is of someone who isolated for 7 days (before the rules reduced from 10 to 7) but then her bosses said she had to go back to work, in an hotel, despite still testing positive on LFT (she lives in and was scared to refuse in case she lost her job)

So, I'm pretty bloody sure there are plenty who test and ignore or who don't test cos . . . don't really know why, but plenty

Given the infectivity of Omicron all the efforts to try and stop it's spread are self-evidently bound to fail. It seems that the infected infect others for about two days before they become symptomatic, and at least another 3 days after becoming symptomatic.

I could post the herd immunity equation which applies to Omicron and other variants but having done it more than once before here I can't be arsed to post it yet again.

I had zero effects from my two previous AZ jabs, the Moderna booster was a bit weird for me though -both my knees glowed red and were hot and achy for a couple of days, but I felt absolutely fine in every way

Someone the Mrs knows is anti Vax and went to Butlins for NYE and now has Covid. She said on the Whatsapp group that her kids are sick but isn't testing them cos she can't see how they have it/probably had it before and is fully intending on sending them to school tomorrow as she's not having them bother her at home

So yeah I reckon there are lots of people with 0 sense of responsibility.

Makes me rage when we all spent best part of 26 days and Xmas isolating and someone else def has it, who's kids very probably have it and she'll happily let her kids spread it with 0 fucks given.

Depends whether you like golf or not i guess. I used to play at a high level and enjoy it as it comes back very quickly.

So, where's the long time plan here then? Is the world planning on jabbing the entire population ad infinitum? Or do we learn to live with this wee beastie?

Somebody asked a good rhetorical question the other day: if the experts say we should 'act like we have the virus' to keep each other safe, I.e. wear masks, social distance, wash hands, etc., why should it matter if you do have the 'Rona and do all of the above?

We can't seriously expect the world to stop every time a new variant pops up.

I'd assume a longer term lifetime jab/tablet/etc is the goal... but how realistic that is or isn't, well, it's open to science rather than me.

In all honesty, the restrictions seem to bother me a LOT less than most of you lot, i don't care about the odd mask wearing, i won't actually care if we can't get to Belgium in March or August at Morzine, i'll simply change, modify and mould my plans and life to suit. I don't see why so many are getting so wound about about 'restrictions' .

I think because they are just that: restrictions. I've had holiday plans cancelled, been told I can't see friends and family, can't go here, can't go there, seen friends' businesses collapse, to the point where last year's idea of a get-together was banging pots and pans on the doorstep.
Even the little things like mask wearing I find extremely irritating. Not being able to see people's faces when you speak to them is not my idea of normal.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to Wales to sit and watch a film by the Ikes in some subversive cinema run by Mrs. Fruit Loop, but my patience at having my liberties curtailed is wearing as thin as Boris's credibility.

I'd bounce a question back and ask if you'd be happy to live in this state of 'Plan B' for the rest of your life. I sure as shit wouldn't. Masks make my nose spotty.
