MTB Racing 2022. Game time, lets get going

Post by weeksy »

Well the game as they say is afoot...

https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/event ... ruary-2022

first event for the lad is the 27th Feb at Forest of Dean. Entered in Juvenille which is 13/14 class. Lots of his rivals from 2021 racing this one too.

Lets see what it brings :)

I'm hoping to do a few races this year, but I'll see how my knees hold up over the winter.

Maybe one or two PMBA rounds, but I'd like to try some different races, maybe the odd XC race.

We do fancy a PMBA too, but not sure the time, funds, wife allow lol. We've already thrown in the FOD and Mashup, as well as the full Southern series and... well.... probably more lol.

Another one entered today, it's getting silly now.

6th Feb at 417 flyup. It's the race we've both done before, this time I'll stick to being put crew not racing though I think.

Non ranked event so no overall points, but it's a fun course and its local, so why not.

Oh errrrm. It's all getting a bit crazy

Not only do we have the 13th at Twisted Oaks, but we've now got the 21st march at Llangollen for a DH race. So away 2 weekends running, but, wait, I'm in Belgium the weekend after.

I think @Welsh Muffin may need to adopt a new family

Debating whether i can afford/should do this one... it's the same race as i did last year at 417...Obviously it went OK there last time, but OK is a very relative term... OK was only last place... would anything change in this next one... Meh, i doubt it in honesty lol... but it's all riding bikes ain't it.

First race is Sunday... Weather is looking good, bikes are ready to go. I think we'll be heading out later for a bit of a play in the woods which may decide for me whether I go race or not.

I've been paying for loads of stuff lately and struggling to self-justify the £45 for me to go race.... Which is silly i know considering i'm happy paying £80 for a tyre for the lad lol.. but buying him stuff and paying for me to finish last are 2 very different things.

I didn't enter myself in the end. Partly because, well, i'm not particularly quick.. :) But also i think it's going to be an insanely busy day as the field is massive, so i'd end up standing round in the cold on my own at the top of the hill for hours at a time waiting. I just can't be bothered.

The boy is struggling with his psyche today as he's been off the bike for a week due to injuring his knee drop-kicking his mate LOL. Kids.... can't keep them safe for a week at a time.

I'm sure it'll all come together once he gets on the uplift and gets his first run in tomorrow morning.

Bike is all prepped and ready to roll. We've got 2 sets of wheels and tyres ready, but if conditions are as i expect, we won't need the 2nd dry/fast set anyway.

Watching bits of my garden getting blown around at the moment, including bullet rain. Tell the boy, Rule 5 and 9 apply today😂.

Mud tyres fitted yet?
