Back when this all started in the uk, I recall seeing someone say that typical development is more contagious but less dangerous.

But we've only formally identified a handful of distinct variants. We don't really know how far along the evolutionary curve of the virus we are yet. We don't understand the impact of a "less dangerous" geographic variant upon a different demographic.

Like I said (quoted), 'typical development'. However, taking your point, that we don't know with this latest particular variant, it's interesting that Israel have said that, whether by vaccination or infection, they are aiming for herd impunity ( ;) ). But they acknowledge that there are risks.

TBF I'm basically invincible :D As I've said before, my Grandad was part of a long term immunity study 'cause he never got ill and my Dad seems to be the same.

Baby D is looking the same way thankfully  Mrs. D on the other hand is floored by the common cold.

You may all catch it and be OK. But before it's detected, you could unwittingly pass it onto someone who's vulnerable. That's not good.

You could .
You could also unwittingly pass a common cold or any number of other diseases onto a vulnerable person , as you always have been able to do before any of us had ever heard of Covid-19 or started wearing masks.

It's here to stay matey- are you going to wear a mask, maintain social distancing, not touch anything that any other person might possibly touch etc etc forever?

It's already been detected, we have to isolate now for ten days then we all get another test and then we can go out, until then we isolate.
I'm not going to purposely go out and infect people.

.
Aha. That's what I wondered.

Wearing a mask for a few weeks in school is neither here nor there.
Agreed.
But we're not talking about a few weeks, we're almost two years in now and this has got another couple to run, so if you're six years old and you've spent 2/3rds of your life not being able to interpret facial signals from your friends when you've been socialising, then you're going to communicate differently by 2024 - no one knows what the results of that will be, because despite all the pretty unpleasant animal testing that goes on in the name of medicine and psychology, no one has ever been monstrous enough to make six year old children wear masks for 2/3ds of their lives.

However, I go back to what I said, it's always 'on behalf of the vulnerable' but we seem to be short of anyone saying that they're so scared of dying that they're willing to force primary school kids into unpleasantness. No one here has stepped forward, so it seems that we're all talking on behalf of these mythical human beings that are vulnerable and want to survive at all and any costs, I wonder who they are and how they justify their own lives being so important.
Go up to the post directly above yours and read the two links if you haven't done so already. The children are at risk of contracting eraCOVID-19. Hopefully they're interacting with family members and getting the chance to read faces. While masked with their friends they're still getting body posture cues as well as cues from the eyes. It is also likely that if the majority get vaccinated that they can engage in activities outside sans masks.

OTOH, losing a friend or two to COVID, ending up in an ICU, suffering long term effects, or being permanently dead are not good things for children to experience.

Yesterday
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-59859923.amp
Mr Johnson added "We've got to make sure we look after our NHS in any way that we can"

Today

Boris Johnson ... acknowledged parts of the NHS would feel "temporarily overwhelmed" amid a surge of Omicron cases.

What I find very amusing is how folk are quite happy to dispute the actual science of the numerous virus testing efforts ("it's all a con" blah-blah, "it wasn't tested properly" blah-blah) but are quite happily to conjecture issues like the potential end-game of the virus pandemic and the impact of mask-wearing on kiddlywinks based upon "stuff I reckon".

Yeah this.

Never mentioned this before but long time ago I worked for Beecham Pharmaceuticals in Operations Research before they got taken over by Glaxo which became GSK. Even then it never ceased to amaze me that the innumerate habitually dismissed the science for the simple reason that they didn't understand it.

Plus ça change.

The other reason to doubt science is when scientists are vague, contradictory or avoid direct questions expecting people to believe them because they wear white coats. I have faith in the covid briefings as they go into a lot of detail but that's unusual.

You have missed the point.

There are perhaps many reasons to "doubt science" but an inability to understand the numbers is not one of them.

In some ways it's similar to those who do not understand and therefore deny the genetic origins of sex determination and thereby try to deny its (to them) inconvenient existence.

Lol, that was as predictable as the sun coming up tomorrow.

The interpretation of data is only one part of an intelligence package.
Original thought is a large part of it too, most people think they have their own opinions, but they're actually told what their opinions are and they run with that - which is why most people are sheep that bump along in life just taking the direction that life pushes them in, they'll never create anything or change anything. They're usually the ones doing a lot of quoting of other people.

People with the ability for original thought are the ones that create change. People without that ability will just accept what is, because they don't have the capacity to understand or create change.
Every world needs wolves, sheep and shepards....Somehow you always seem to imply that being the sheep is wrong. We understand it's wrong for YOU, but you can never seem to grasp that not all of us want to be like you.
