Spot The Top 80s Racers
This a cool pic containing most of our top lads of the day. The bottom left and bottom right were tough.
Good luck

It would be easier if someone hadn't drawn white lines over all the names

I saw it on my phone where names were too small to see.

Is that a young (and less burly) Rob McElnea?

So who do you reckon was the fastest out of that line-up? Sheene had the most success, but was he the fastest?

Re: Spot The Top 80s Racers
At the time of the photo, probably Big Mac, I'm guessing it's the Transatlantic Team for 1982, Rob won a Senior TT about that time and went on to be Eddie Lawson's team mate in the Yamaha 500 GP team, but Ron Haslam also raced GPs and was very quick in the wet.
By 1982 Sheene was ready to retire and didn't really come back from the big accident at Silverstone, but they're all quick.
A quick Google says 1983 Transatlantic team

That year Sheene finished 5th in 500s. Ahead of Mamola, but only 2 points behind Roberts and only 4 behind Spencer on a privateer Yam. Not too shabby.mangocrazy wrote: ↑Mon Jan 03, 2022 7:54 pmSo who do you reckon was the fastest out of that line-up? Sheene had the most success, but was he the fastest?

Re: Spot The Top 80s Racers
Yes, I'd rather forgotten how quick Sheene was on 2nd tier machinery. Rob Mac, albeit very quick at the TT, never really set the world alight in GPs even on factory bikes.Yorick wrote: ↑Mon Jan 03, 2022 8:26 pmThat year Sheene finished 5th in 500s. My least favourite rider in that line-up has to be Mick Grant. Miserable sod in any of my dealings with him. And some of his race tactics were very questionable.

Re: Spot The Top 80s Racers
I can't find anything on YouTube for the 83 races (what's labelled as 83 is actually 84)
I'm watching the 82 races from Brands and Sheene is winning by a country mile on a Yamaha, the bike doesn't look second tier.
