Dakar 2022
It’s that time of year again boys and girls where we get to watch these utter heroes hoon across the desert at 100 mph while popping wheelies for the chasing helicopter camera. Add in repairing their own bikes after 12 hours or more riding each day for the Malle Moto class
Looking forward to the usual evening coverage on Eurosport and seeing how Danilo Petrucci fares on his debut after MotoGP. Sadly James Hillier hasn’t made it in time for this year but maybe 2023

Re: Dakar 2022
Just watched tonight's show, eurosport 2 8 -9 pm. First proper stage tomorrow they say. It's a good watch and there's a few EVs. Audi have one. Small ice engine charging batteries to power motor I think, another was hydrogen to charge batteries to power motor. All good stuff.

Re: Dakar 2022
Hydrogen isn’t as clever as people think.
Unless you’ve a lovely amount of it as a side effect/waste product then it takes more energy to produce than you get from it.

It's all on the Tube but here's a link to first proper stage, 1B. Only 10 min highlights. Its all on eurosport but show time's vary so tube is best me thinks.

Absolutely gutted for Danilo Petrucci
He is out of the Dakar after suffering mechanical issues during today's stage. He was running inside the Top 5 as well
He will be allowed to continue but due to regulations he won’t feature in the final classifications.

Re: Dakar 2022
In all honesty this could be a good thing for Petrux as he can now learn the entire rally with no time pressures and learn exactly what he and the bike are capable
<glass half full>
But yeah, gutted for the bloke as he was moving up and finding his way well

Re: Dakar 2022
Petrux lost his phone so couldn't contact team.
I'm enjoying the Eurosport coverage more than last year when I gave up after 4 days
I think there should be a section for standard (ish) cars that we can recognise as in the first few rallies IMHO.
And, the routes aren't that silly. Seen nothing that we haven't done over here. Similar terrains.
Just there're sooooo much faster

Re: Dakar 2022
Danilo is back in the game, starting over 19 hours behind and way down the field but continuing for experience............. It appears he learns fast as he finished todays stage in 3rd on what is the longest stage of the rally. Admittedly starting near the lower end of the bike order gives him plenty of tracks to follow but he still needs to get the nav spot on as even the top boys can all get it wrong as many proved on day 1 losing shed loads of time missing a waypoint
He was even top KTM today on time on the stage and would have been on the days podium but was hit with a 10 minute penalty dropping him to 15th on the day

Re: Dakar 2022
Nope , their plans fell apart through funding as they wanted to enter in "original" but were told they couldnt which meant sending a full crew which they just couldnt afford ..... lloks like 2023 is now the target, see belowasmethurst99 wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 7:41 pm Is Al Fagan from 44 teeth riding ?I can’t find him using the App .

Re: Dakar 2022
Oops. Did it again. Started off very excited. But every day riding over sand dunes. Dull.
If I missed a day or so, it wouldn't matter. Same as the days I'd seen.
But was impressed that one lad averaged 120kph for day. Wow.
But still struggling to see the car drivers with shovels digging themselves out.
I'm up and away in 5 minutes if I get stuck in sand. Maybe I should tell them
