To be fair, I didn't grow up that close to..erm...Hodge Close as its near Coniston and about an hour away from where I lived when I was a kid but my brothers were always ratching about down old mines so I've been around that place since I was a nipper.
Although the place I lived as a kid was pretty good (in a no mates living close by and kind of bleak fells sort of way) but not as spectacular.

We often went up and camped and explored, from 18 right up to my early 30s. When I was a kid, we had a speedboat moored up in Ambleside. Always loved the lakes.

Today I watched Highlander - for the first time! (I've seen a later one of the series).
Like many cult movies it's pants - but that's part of the fun.
I started watching that too (for the 15th time on 4 Catch up), it's got the bestest soundtrack EVER!
Apparently Marillion were going to do it but had to back out because of touring commitments.
Connery and Clancy Brown (Kurgan) went so far over the top they ended up in the enemy trenches but that worked much better than if they'd taken it seriously. (Clancy Brown was excellent in Carnivàle).
Doubt is not a pleasant condition.
But certainty is an absurd one.

We're at the end of series two. It's gone downhill a bit. As it started to slide there was an increase in guyliner. Also The Goon was killed.

I watched Apocalypse Now for the first time this Christmas. And then I watched it again. And then I read about it and watched Youtube videos about the making of it and interviews with the actors and all that.

Really really disappointing. The later ones in the series were going downhill but this one is scraping the bottom of the barrel.
They had to really twist and turn to get the return of Neo and Trinity (btw she’s showing her age a bit)
If you were intending seeing it I’d recommend saving your money.

So did I. Well, I kind of had to. I was also disappointed - Trinity hasn't aged as well as Neo and Morpheus was practically unrecognisable. Story line and special effects sucked too.

It's a long 2 parter so you need to really feel it. I don't think Mrs weeksy will bother with part 2 but I will

Did you watch the directors cut? The plantation scene sent me down a wormhole of curiosity about the French era. And you might enjoy reading the source material, Joseph Conrad's 'Heart of Darkness'.
"Its Directed by Ridley Scott and Matt Damon is in it" said Mrs GP.
I don't know if was in the wrong mood for it but I really don't understand the ratings that its got on IMDB etc. A medieval tale of alleged rape, Its split into Chapters, a version of the story from the three protagonists, one after the other, then the (predictable) finale. its a long movie too.

I watched the final cut (on Amazon Prime). I understand it has a scene that was cut from the original where Lieutenant Kilgore shows compassion to a hurt child. I thought it was an important detail, along with him offering water to an injured "gook" (ok, so he got distracted) before I knew that it wasn't in the original cut and it adds an important facet to his personality.
I didn't know that much about the Vietnam war before watching the film and didn't know about the French era either so no wormhole other than the whole film sparking a general interest. I knew the Vietnam war happened of course and the atrocities hadn't escaped me, but not so much the politics.
I also learned about 'Heart of Darkness' set in Congo and I'm sure I'll get to that sometime.

I loved it! I love the books and the film really captures the book very well.
