No bike today but a long dog walk.

Who’s got some decent riding over the festive time then

We’ve got
19th @ 471 Flyup for race
21st @ BPW uplift
22nd @ Afan for Blue Scar
29th @ FoD for Wye MTB
30th @ Rogate
2nd Jan @ Cannock

I’m sure we’ll squeeze in some local stuff over the 22-29 as well

As you know, the SDW mirrors the Ridgeway in that context... we stay well away over winter.

Chatting with my bosses boss at lunchtime today, I told him that the intensity of work this year has ground me down and he suggested that I need to get out more. So I did 😁

I still only had half hour of daylight and managed to get one DH trail done before having to switch the lights on, and as is landed up about a mile away from dowies I decided to go for it. These trails are pretty epic fun in the day, and pretty bloody scary one the dark 😂😂

Near "death" experience on the road bike commute this morning, coming down the long hill near Lewes prison you go onto a cycle path which crosses a farm track after which the path has a mild S bend. Took it all a bit quick and then ran onto the leaves and slurry that had collected on the bend so I slid sideways into the edge of the undergrowth before miraculously collecting it all and carrying on...........

E-Bike ride tonight with my very fit mate and his nephew with a pub stop. Going on the ride a few days ago the pub will no doubt put us on the "muddy" table.

Today was better - 57.5 kms down the Downs Link and various roads / track to Southwater and back.
The cakes at Southwater was lovely , the coffee was horrid.

And nearly 60 kms is a fuck of a long way ....

I cheated and borrowed Lady PaynE from Mrs M. Very muddy 25 miles and 2700ft of climbing with me towing my mate up the last two climbs after we left the pub which was hilarious after a couple of pints and slimy green chalk!

Bike Park Wales today and an epic epic day.

Started off sedately enough but then moved into Wibly Wobly, a very fun red.

My lad then discussed Watts Occuring which had a slightly terrifying drop qualifier, however it was actually fine. Some of the trail drops though, FFS they were tough. I was impressed I got down it.
The vicious valley and Bonneville, wherehe then persuaded me to hit a black. Oh that was fun! Not. Only a super short but crazy steep chute. Eeek.

Then to insufficient funds which again is droppy! Phew.

Last we did some blues to calm down

Big thing for me was doing a couple of the super tech reds, along with really working on body position after seeing pics the other day. Moving myself forward and down burying my head on the bars. Ace fun.

Up at the jump / skills are at Afan. Going well and clearing the tables. My lad is doing some hip jumps and recording himself.

Had a laugh with a teenager group up here as one of them spannered his tyre. Couldn't get the axle out as the bolt head was rounded off.
I had full tools in the car so got it off with hammering in a torx head.
Then his tyre was knackered but I had an almost brand new Maxxis Shorty in the car so that's now on his bike. I ended up changing it for him as he was useless lol. Very polite, but very useless.
He tried to give me £20 and I laughed and wished him a merry Christmas.

I'd like to think that if my lad ever ends up in a pickle, someone somewhere will get him out of trouble with a bit of ingenuity.

He did look worried when I picked up a large rock, but I didn't have a hammed in the box, so a rock was needed to whack the torx in.

Another commute this morning, as I heaved my way up the short hill outside Lewes station the BB of my road bike creaked ominously. Much muttering for the rest of the ride to work as I’d only stripped and cleaned it a few weeks ago but on checking it, I found one of the roll pins holding the Time Atac pedal cleat spring in was working loose. Luckily it held and didn’t fall out as I’ve had that happen before and it’s a tedious push after that as the spring assembly disappears into the night never to be seen again. Roll pin was driven back in with a set of pipe pliers and good to go, just got to keep an eye on it now.

Today was cleaning for me... both bikes were absolutely filthy from yesterdays ride and down in wales we don't have the same level of garage facilities that i have at home, along with the fact we were all head to toe covered in mud yesterday. So today brought both the Sworks and the G-170 into the world from dirt to clean, lubed, sorted and ready.

Won't be back out now until the 27th assuming the weather allows us then.... deffo out on the 29th as it's FoD

Swift riding last 2 days, yesterday was a 52km ride. Today's was supposed to be a race at 12:02 bit I went into the garage and there was a lime green G170 belonging to my lads mate. I went to move it but the wheels barely turned.

Called the 2 of them down and we went through the bike.

First, brakes were misaligned and warped, so trued them
I then showed him how to check his chain and noticed we were not getting gear 12. "Oh, yeah the gears are not quite right" says he.
So 10 minutes later I'm still trying to get gear 12. I even a mech hanger that fits his and try it. Still same.
I then notice from the rear it's the mech arm hitting the mech. So put into gear 1/2 and notice his mech is waaaaay out on the B alignment. So I eyeball and move the B screw 8 full turns. Then boom, gear 12 works a dream.
5 mins of tweaking and he's now got all 12 gears and wheels that rotate.

My guess is that it was his dad who bought an alignment tool but didn't actually know how to use it. Lol

I do wish his mates wouldn't touch their own bikes.
