Any Diesel Specialists Here?
I have a LDV Maxus what runs the Chrysler VM 2.5 engine. When i got it there was no history of the belt so that was to be the first job. It should have been first days job as it went withing a week. Put a kit in and replaced the crushed rockers but it seemed there was more damage further down as once we started to strip it we found some right cowboy had been in there before and just did botch job for a sale. Anyway took a gamble on ebay and won a van for 500 quid what lost fifth and reverse gear but only 100k on the clock. Went down to Manchester and just drove it home what was great considering only 4 gears. Was trying to stick to 60 but it did see 75 a few times what is quite high revving in forth
Swapped engines over with a new belt and clutch and used my box. Service kit and good to go, however. Bloody turbo went and plumes of smoke out the exhaust. Swapped that and good to go again. My original van was restricted to 60mph so i swapped the ECU and locks with donor van now when i give it welly it will cut out. Lift my foot off the gas it kicks back into life again. If i take my time i can wind this up to 100mph but if i do that in high revs to get there fast it will cut out till i take my foot off again. What would cause this? Blocked DPF? Intercooler? what i never cleaned out when the turbo went.
Not its not often i will ever ring its neck to get to 100 but i do carry a lot of heavy loads and can hit some high hills where i need to start going down the box then the bugger will start cutting out again. Remember this has the donor vans engine, ECU, pump, fuel rail what was all quite happy driving fast in forth when i collected it. Should i be looking at part blocked DPF? Flexi is worn and mentioned in MOT so a change would be on the cards soon anyway.

Sounds to me like a fuel cut off. Some sensor reads high when you floor it and the ECU cuts the pump. As it's when you floor it, maybe the intake pressure sensor from the turbo spooling up fast. Just guessing tho'

I had something like that in a petrol car, it was a weak fuel pump that couldn't supply enough for full throttle and as soon as I eased off it was fine again

From what I can see of the pump its pretty much mechanical and no fuel cut off solenoid. It does have a Pressure regulator. That is only three bolts and its off and I do have a spare used one I could try. Intake pressure sensor? I have the MAF what was cleaned in November is it was throwing a EML for the MOT. I have a MAP sensor and that was new when engine went in as I broke the loom retaining clip taking engine out donor van
Boost leak. Would this be the pipe from turbo back into engine/turbo and back into the intercooler? Possible as it does have a tight elbow rubber hose at the back of engine that is a bugger to tighten. Ill have a play about with that later today. Thinking about it the pressure in that hose looks like what operates the turbo actuator so may be into something.
Weak fuel pump. Its the same one that came with the engine and as I say it was fine driving it home from Manchester. I do have a spare I could swap but that is dicking about with the timing belt again and quite a big job in this van. What I do have on the fuel rail is a fuel pressure sensor and a pressure relieve valve. I just ordered the pressure sensor as that is the cheaper of the two to swap first at £25. I am presuming that tells the ECU the pressure and ECU tells the relief regulator to open and send fuel back out to the return hose. Think ill change that first. Look for leaks and swap over pump regulator. No joy buy the relief regulator and see what that does.

IIRC on a derv if it's boost/intercooler hoses, you should get A LOT of black smoke (unburnt diesel) when you floor it.

If it's an old skool direct injection with a rotary pump, then it will only stop from fuel starvation. If there fuel and air it'll run.

I do have a couple of connectors in the feed pipe right enough. These kind of things https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/274390213230 ... BM5PKMkMBf When i has my Volvo i had to replace a couple as they were letting in air. Car was fine but of left for two or more days i was having to prime the fuel up before starting.

Been out for a spin to get this to do it again. Cleared all the crap off the dash so i can see what is going on with the dials. Hit a big hill at 65 so dropped to 4th and botted it up. Never even got half way and it did it. Revs just go down to tickover but the EDC light flashed briefly (Diesel Control) So im thinking a sensor more now but unsure if a worn/part blocked injector could cause this. Unfortunately nothing comes up code wise so it just a case of start with the cheapest part to swap and work my way up. Bugger
