Wifi Buffering - but not on all things??
I have been using a site called FilmOn for watching UK tv (Yes, I do have to sort out a sensible VPN, cos it'll be cheaper!!)
In the past I've been able to watch anything through that site and it's fine. I use an old iPad mini and 'throw' it onto the tv through an Apple TV block. It's worked fine for years.
Suddenly in the last few days it is impossible to watch anything live or recorded as it buffers SOOOOOOOOO MUCH
Netflix is fine tho??
Is it the site? Should I turn the internet off and back on?
The laptop is sometimes a bit slow but that's ok at the moment, but I can't watch tv through FilmOn cos of buffering. I've tried watching without chucking it onto the tv but, on the iPad, iPhone and laptop it constantly buffers. So it isn't just one connection.
Help?!!

Site will probably be popular as its free and more folk are sitting at home doing nothing just now apart from watching hooky TV. I use one for watching football and all the popular matches tent to buffer more than usual. I use a free VPN Called Touch VPN what does help but not 100%

It's definitely not free!! But I did wonder if the fact that there are more people in resort might be slowing the internet capabilitiesFelix wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 6:14 pm Site will probably be popular as its free and more folk are sitting at home doing nothing just now apart from watching hooky TV. A friend just said he did unplug and replug his and it helped. Might try that tomorrow!!
Up here, people are more likely to be outside than at home - although I know you mean the actual site, not the connection!!
Will do some trouble shooting tomorrow when I get home!!

So many possibles but it's good you tried different devices.
VPN can be split route, so some things go through VPN and others don't. Do you know if everything goes through VPN?
Netflix works out what bandwidth you have and adjusts accordingly, are you getting high resolution through Netflix through (and not through) the VPN? If so it may be FilmOn has throttled the VPN IP address deliberately, or their website is overloaded, or the Proxy server that it was using had failed.
Many possible problems outside of your control so you can only try things in your control, are you able to pick a different VPN server with your provider?

I don't currently have a VPN as when I tried it on the laptop it was too much hassle, it stopped some things I wanted to use and I just couldn't be bothered!!Mussels wrote: ↑Sun Dec 26, 2021 9:00 pm So many possibles but it's good you tried different devices.

So currently it's just the Orange wifi, but I know it isn't great up here!!
Didn't realise that Netflix adjusts, that's good to know!! LOL
The 'sort of' plan is that I will use a VPN only on the ipad (when I can find one that works on an iPad so old!!) and keep the laptop only on the normal wifi. I only use the ipad for streaming to the apple tv, so hopefully it won't affect anything else!! Cross fingers!!
Off to work now, so I'll do the usual IT 'fix' and turn off the wifi and turn it back on when I get back!!!

When I install a vpn it stops my streams working. Don't bother now.
