My bills (OVO): gas and electric. Gone from £250/month to nearly £400.

Some of my colleagues are facing >£500/month.

It’s just madness.

shopping is more expensive too. As is technology, funnily so are most things.... Can't imagine why though.

I get lots of the price rises that have happened but other than Russia throttling gas whats causing this one? Higher demand globally? But then why wasn't that an issue pre covid

The pound losing value globally might have something to do with it

The UK used to have a fair amount of gas storage capacity. Now it doesn't. Same for several other European countries.

You think private companies should subsidise your energy bill?

Getting away with charging you slightly more than they pay for it?

Isn't that kind of how businesses work?

Slightly more my ass, when you see their turnover and profits it beggars belief.

They get so greedy that the very thought of their profits margins being slightly less that the previous years has them pissing their pants, fact is they’re worried about not being able to pay the ridiculous bonuses that they pay that they’re more hellbent on fucking us.

Obviously not you select few that are happy with the price increase and can easily afford to pay for it.

If they make massive profits, how come so many of them have gone tits up recently when the wholesale price shot up ???

The select few, go and have a look at the money the big companies and such like make, all the information is easily available. It’s been this way for years, ridiculous turnover and profits.

Do you see wages rising by 50%? How do they expect people to survive? Tell me that?

The greedy, money grabbing, capitalist bastards, they should all be put up against the wall and shot, and anyone who works for them should never get a pay rise, anyone who owns shares in them shouldn't get a dividend, anyone who's pension fund has invested in them should lose money, yeah, fuck em all, the rich capitalist pigs.

That might account for it if the pound had actually lost value. I've just checked xe.com and the pound seems to have stayed pretty much constant against the US dollar, the Euro and a few other currencies for the last 5 years. I guess we can strike that from the list of possible causes.

Do we buy gas from the US or the EU?

I’m afraid I’m not in the ‘well everything has gone up asswell/shrug shoulders’ camp.

There is clearly an issue as much of the business has gone belly up. Prices are skyrocketing to the point where folk simply can’t afford to keep the heating on. We have nurses ( and fluffy kittens) ( I’ve only got nurses as a reference because I speak to so many) skint due to fuel rises.

One month you’re budgeting for an amount, next month your rates double. I imagine if you’re on a contract and not touched by this yet- you’ll not quite get why this is bad news.

I get why private companies need to make money, but this is Russia is it not sabre rattling?

Doesn’t really sit comfortably in the same context we roll over and suggest everything has gone up-when so many quangos have been given billions of £ to help our political mates.

Locked in @ £100 a month for another 5 months, but I get it, sitting here all smug for now, but slightly worried about coming off contract later if things don't improve
