Honda Grom

Post by dern »

It's winter, I'm bored, can't stop watching grom videos... anyone got one and are they fun or do you need a couple of mates with them too and a cavalier attitude to riding like a nob? They look a laugh but does that continue after the first week?

BTW, I'm 53 and am 6ft 1in tall.

Thanks.

I think his name was Alex, cant remember the user name although always liked an "off the wall" bike

Tomcat still has one and he is , shall we say, a large mature gent ;)

Here he is getting into race mode :)

Was it A Morti in Gibraltar? A top bloke whatever his username was.

Some of the most fun I've had in recent years on a motorbike has been on the CRF125 small wheel I bought for my kids. It's geared low and only weighs about 70kg from memory. Little bikes can be fun although I have no experience of the Grom. FWIW I'm still tempted by the Aprilia AF1 125 on eBay.

Yes, A_morti. It may be reasonably obvious from the posts he's made.

I love them. I used to borrow the dealers one when I was getting a service so I've done a couple of hundred Grom miles. I'm 5' 3" btw so they're about the right size for me  I think I got it up to 62mph - whoop whoop!!!

I thought about getting one but couldn't find an excuse. They're no good as a run around as they are so desirable and can be picked up and chucked in the back of a van in a couple of seconds so I'd be forever worried about it getting pinched.

And you don't just get a Grom :shhh: You have to dress them up and forever modify them - thems the rules. Lots of accessories and mods available. Great toys!

When she moved over here she sold it without telling me, I was pissed off about it and said I'd have given her the money and kept it as a run-around for any of us to nip into town when we're in the UK. She sold it quickly for less than it was worth and someone got a bargain.

The only bike I've ever had that felt as convenient and fun was a Yamaha BW50 that I had for getting about at college and Uni, that was a great little thing as well.
Psssst

Wanna buy a Grom, 1 lady owner, low miles

A morti had one, helped me loads

I had 2.

In town they are great fun, other than that sod that,
I wanted a 180 kit but never wanted to spend the wedge.
Bloody cheap to run, with a few small mods it was good, but got bored quite quick.

If you have spare cash, and time to ride it on the odd occasion get one.

I am 6ft and I had one. Very comfortable and a great laugh to ride. I could easily do 120 miles a day on it and it only cost a fiver!
If you and a few mates have them its more entertaining. Not so much fun if you are the only one on a small bike.

It was also great when commuting into London, as I could go into the gaps which used to be the preserve of cyclists only.

When I had a proper garden I used to take my kids on the back around the garden and they loved it. Would have one again, but am not sure what I would use it for!
