There are some winners and there are some losers - from the above link:
The government said the deal would see UK fishing vessels be allowed to fish more than 7,000 tonnes of cod in the arctic - an increase of 1,500 tonnes compared with 2021.

I've said before, Co. that I work for has formed a partnership with a German organisation to enable access to EU research funds. A faff, which will cost, but a necessary adaptation.

As someone who knows very little about the fishing industry, this deal seems to pretty good news. I can understand the owners of the Kirkella being pissed off at having their catch reduced from 10,000 tonnes to 500 tonnes, but assume that this will benefit smaller crews and may open up other job opportunities for the Kirkella crew?
That being said, somewhere in the fog of my hazy memory I seem to recall cries of unfairness with regards to EU trawlers being far larger than UK trawlers, yet here we are with the owners of the UK's largest trawler talking about being forced to move their operations out of the UK.

This link might prove interesting, and not only because it mentions "Bottom trawling" ;)

https://www.fishsec.org/2021/03/25/bott ... r-traffic/
Bottom trawling releases as much carbon dioxide as air traffic

Published on March 25, 2021

Demersal trawling cause as much carbon dioxide emissions as air traffic, according to a new study. When the trawls are dragged along the sea floor large amounts of carbon is released, which increases global warming and makes the sea more acidic. In addition, bottom trawling threatens both ocean productivity and biodiversity.
Greenpeace wrote: Trawler Kirkella operates in the Barents sea off the east coast of Svalbard. Most of the fishing vessels operating in the area are using bottom trawl, pulling huge nets to scoop up fish, a practice which is damaging to the seabed and all the creatures that live here.

Aye, and fortunately they've managed to suppress 130 billions worth of harmfull farming, fishing, banking and other exports emissions* since 2016 without really thinking about it.
