I now think I've cracked it - the tiny voltage step up gadgets arrived and work superbly. Set to 6.8 volts and the whole setup works fine including with headlight / stop lamp activated. I'm now looking for an opportunity to use the other 2.....

They have a very sensitive continuously variable output - I was a bit concerned they would be a discrete set of steps.

Yes I just bought a 3 amp version, for LED purposes and it’s about the size of a commemorative postage stamp!

Glad to hear you’re now flashing merrily.
