Lost some slow speed control

IIRC some of the BMW GS bikes were switchable.

On other bikes, would it be possible to add a switch inline to the ABS controller power feed?

No idea about that, but ktm for example have their software addons, maybe front abs bypass is included, I really don't know.

On track it's bloody horrible, cuts in all the time on some bikes. On the road it's a great safety aid.

Mine does but it resets when you turn the bike off - safety feature.

Don't forget that some junctions have coils buried in the road surface to trigger the signals. Delay arriving may delay departure!

I might be sad, but the other thing I practise relatively regularly are e-stops from speed. It’s nice to have some understanding of how the bike will behave when the shit hits the fan.

Nothing "sad" about that. You need to be ABLE to do an e-stop well before you NEED to do an e-stop well. If you haven't done one since your test, how good will it be?

And if you have ABS, provoke it into working so that you know how it feels (and, often, find out how hard you can actually brake).

KNMV (Dutch) courses include riding off tarmac onto grass to find out about ABS.

Having spent years riding without locking up the front end under braking i dont get the ABS to kick in despite owning an ABS equipped bikes for 4-5 years. Couchy suggested i really needed to try it out so this year at Pembrey i tried it from about 120 mph in the wet at the end of the main straight. Weird feeling and hard to completely trust the electronics but slowed the bike enough to make the hairpin at the end....just.

Next lap i used the same marker, same speed and my normal braking. No locking, no ABS cut in and made the hairpin just where i wanted.

So yes i know it will work if needed but i prefer not getting it to cut in as i regularly swap between the ABS and non ABS bikes i own

I have an irrational fear of U turns. It might just be the phrase that does it - as soon as I think "U turn" or someone says "do a U turn" every muscle in my body tenses and I become ground focused. However, when I do them without thinking I can turn very tight, probably because I'm relaxed and looking up. I sometimes approach traffic lights and stops as slow as I can, particularly to annoy any bikers behind me as they have to ride at walking pace too It's one of those games we play.

A lot of riding clubs do slow control days so have a look/ask around locally for those.

I often wonder how useful or necessary a skill it really is. Often the constraint is traffic behind, anyway, meaning you're going to stop and end up doing a partial U at the most, or even back into a driveway or somesuch. I get it that it's good to have slow control, and being able to do the U is part of that, but needing to do a full U is rare. Personally I practise it occasionally, I don't aim for perfection at it.

How often do you turn right at a mini roundabout, or make other tight turns at junctions or even hairpin bends?

You may apply more often than you practice.
