The point is I can still see them, as can you.
Not when we want to, only when permitted by government restrictions.
Have I missed an announcement? What restrictions are in place in England at the moment?

BBC say:

What are the Covid rules in England?
Somevenues and events are now legally required to check the Covid status of over 18s.

Proof of being fully vaccinated (currently two doses), proof of a negative test in the last 48 hours, or an exemption are needed.

This can be done with an NHS Covid Pass, or an alternative way of showing a negative test, like a text or an email from the NHS.

People need to demonstrate their Covid status to gain entry to:
nightclubs
indoor unseated venues with more than 500 people
unseated outdoor venues with more than 4,000 people
any venue with more than 10,000 people
Face coverings are compulsory in most indoor public venues, including theatres and cinemas - as well as on public transport and in places like shops and hairdressers. Masks won't be needed in pubs or restaurants, or venues like gyms where it's "not practical".

People should work from home "if they can".

Lateral flow tests should be used before people enter "a high-risk setting", such as a crowded place, the government says.

Anyone who's been in contact with a positive Covid case, and is fully vaccinated, now has to take LFTs for seven days.

Other rules include:
Pupils at secondary schools are "strongly advised" to wear face coverings in communal areas; as should staff and visitors at all schools and childcare settings
1m-plus social distancing remains in places including hospitals and passport control
Anyone with Covid symptoms, or who tests positive, must self-isolate
Self-isolation for people who test positive or develop symptoms - or for unvaccinated people who are a contact of a Covid case

True, but, since irie lives on the south coast, then (if they're in devolved nations, and I didn't read what visiting limits there are there) there's life choices involved to have a home away from family.

Also, IIRC, he has mentioned family outside of the UK. If that's the case then - at the moment - it's not the UK's government that has imposed travel restrictions.

It was a general point about lockdowns, not merely about the current situation. Give it a week or two and it will all change. Sooner than later I suspect.

Wife went with her pals to Saddlers Wells today. While on the train got a text that it was cancelled. So came home. Fuck.

So what was all of that 'my human rights' stuff all about?

You were quite specific "Right of Private & Family Life".

Wonder what the breakdown is between the voluntarily-unvaccinated and those who for medical reasons can not be vaccinated? Implication is that it's the former.
DT wrote:... Sajid Javid, the Health Secretary, accused unvaccinated patients of “taking up hospital beds” and said they now represent nine out 10 patients in hospital needing the most care.

I'm so far past caring.. well, in the context of the what/why/who. I'm still being arguably more cautious than most. But the details, you know what, i just don't give a fuck, not even slightly, not even a little teensy tiny bit.

If Swinley etc. was closed down would you still not give a fuck?

Why weren't you bleating so loudly about the continual erosion of hospital resources and capacity over the last decade?

There seems to be a determined propaganda effort to shift the blame onto the unvaccinated.

Don't lose sight of where the blame really lies: with the Chinese who carried out the gain of function research and the Americans who paid for it.

Who to blame doesn't help us unless we can change something, we can't change history but can change the unvaccinated.

i do wonder what happened to the person who was ultimately responsible, either for creating or the mistake that led to it getting out.

The only thing likely to change the Chinese government is a revolution. Or a nuclear war. Either will involve massive loss of life.

Not for the infection itself, but they are clogging up the hospitals and walking us into another lockdown by their choices.

According to https://www.kingsfund.org.uk/audio-vide ... igures-nhs
In March 2019 there were 112,031 doctors, 311,380 qualified nursing staff (including midwives and health visitors) and 34,556 managers in the NHS...
(Numbers have probably changed by now but if there are fewer doctors and nurses some management heads should roll.)

According to https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51768274 there were 7,482 patients in hospital with COVID on Friday. If they each have one doctor, three nurses and one manager dedicated to their care* that still leaves 104,549 doctors, 288,934 nursing staff and 27,074 managers to deal with the rest of the patients.

I wouldn't describe that as clogging up.

Everyone I know who has tested positive has been double jabbed and boosted, my experience says your less likely to test positive if your unvaccinated, of course all the people I know that have tested positive want to work from home and don't like coming to work.

1) Do you imagine that it’s spread out nice and evenly throughout the country?
2) Look at the figures again in 1 month,

FWIW, don’t think that I’m advocating a lockdown. I’m not. But it’s going to be an interesting few weeks.
