I had a quick look on t'bay and spotted this...

That's one hell of a deal.

Shame it's the shittest of the colours.
Must have been short on the sales target so whacked in a pre registration. Cant sell it as a new bike as it will have a previous owner so despite the 0 miles it will be a few grand off the RRP which will be a bargain to the new owner.

BMW offered me a similar reduction on a new GS1200LC. They had 4 pre registered so must have been a really poor sales period and were even murmering about half price luggage as well ..... still bought a Ducati instead

If you scroll down to the bottom of the auction and look at the 'similar items' there's two year old bikes with 6k on the clock for more money!

Just been reading a test. Looks like that's the base model so none of the toys that come with the XT spoked wheel version. So 10k RRP. Still a cracking deal for a new bike though.

ah, is it only the XT that gets all the gizmos. I guess that makes sense.

My mate is really down on the V Strom but I reckon as a comfy do it all commuter/tourer that'd still be fun in the twisty bits that's a really good bike for the money. It's heavier than a TL, not much difference in power (to all but the very early ones) but a shed load comfier.

KFB surely that's a new varadero. When you buying it

I put 3500 miles on a new 2018 model out in New Zealand when I was working for the NZ Transport Agency as one of their 'keynote speakers' (sounds posh but needed the title for the work visa) and I got off at the end happy to hand it back. It was not just heavy, it was top-heavy. It handled OK two up but it would have been a lot more fun with 25 fewer kgs.

We had to do a few 250 - 300 mile days (which effectively means 6 to 8 hours in the saddle on NZ roads) and it was more comfortable than my Hornet but my bum was still getting numb by the end, and I'm used to riding six hours plus when I'm training.

The one time I'd have expected traction control to kick in, when I hit a patch of wet polished tarmac coming out of a corner on the throttle, nothing happened - and yes, it was switched on and on the most sensitive setting.

Fuel consumption wasn't brilliant either.

Cheap but I wouldn't buy one even if I did have the cash.

Anything new and good about?

I've just sold my 2020 BMW 540 touring back to BMW for more money than I paid them for it, absolutely crazy. And I've bought myself a totally inappropriate for my age, second hand A45 AMG to tit around in for a while :D

But I've got rid of quite a chunk of monthly ££ in the finance deal. So, man maths are kicking in already and I quite fancy a new bike, I may get my FZS1000 back up and running as well, as the carbs and new suspension need sorting.

So, don't want a huge deposit, around £100'ish a month, don't mind a bit either side if that. New or used. Like a naked, bit of fun, big enough for me not to look a twat on (i'm a fairly large unit, but not in a particularly good way). Love the R1250RS I ride in work as well, but think my budget would struggle, may look at the older 1200rs though.

Any ideas?

Good shout, but maybe in the too big and not enough fun category. I will have a look though, they are very capable, I used a Dakar version on a course, it was too high for my short arse legs but pretty good when going on the road.

I do think I need to try the MT07. I rode a MT09SP a few years ago and it didn't really instil much front end confidence at higher speeds. Not sure if the smaller 07 would be the same? I think there's a new 09 model out as well so may have a look at them. I do like the MT range. May have a look at the new triumph as well.

I'm a bit out of sync with all the new bikes at the moment as they really haven't been on my radar, hence the question.

In truth i think the MT07 would disappoint you considering the bigger and beefier bikes you usually ride. The MT07 takes a certain mindset both to ride and enjoy. the engine on the MT09/XSR900 is absolutely epic though and i think it'd suit you in that context a lot more.

I did think tracer, ridden one and it was very good. I may look at one, and stuff like the s900xr etc.

Or I may just chuck a load of cash at my fazer and get that sorted. In the back of my mind though, it's a 20 yr old bike and however much i spend, it'll still be a 20 yr old bike??

And not 100% on the styling of the Z900RS. I may have to see one in real life.

Was looking at this earlier. I much prefer this to to newer shape. That would be my 6k buy.
