I spend less than half of what I earn....well I don't, I'm "forced" to spend less than half of what I earn and the rest is gravy. The only debt I have is the mortgage.

If I only spent 10% of what I earned that'd be a bit silly I reckon.

Other way around would be sillier though.

That sounds contradictory to what you posted earlier, but I think what you're saying is you spend under 50% of what you earn on stuff you have to, and the rest is for fun, which is fine.

I work with people who get payed about the same as me, but don't get why they've got less ready cash than me, I try to point out to them that having the biggest mortgage the bank would give them and leasing a car is eating all their money, but they won't see it.

My point is, there's nothing wrong with spending money and being some sort of self denying scrooge just 'cause you can be seems a bit odd. So if you're earning more than you were before it would seem kind of strange to me to NOT be spending more too.

Back about 'Black Wednesday' days, one wage just paid the mortgage ...

I can see that, but I'm happy, I'd rather work less hours, but work aren't keen on me doing that, and I can't be arsed to change jobs, so I'll let them keep paying me more than I want for doing an easy job.

:?

Nope. Remind me.

;)
I remember.

Most of the time I had a mortgage interest rates were between 5% and 10%. Some of the time they were up around 15%. Now I have savings interest rates are less than 1%. I know nobody promised me life would be fair but really... :angry-cussingblack:

Sorry to buck the trend if the thread, but I’ll likely have a mortgage until I retire. Currently £2k/month, with any luck that will be going up to £3k a month next August.

Kids are expensive.

Yup as soon as my mortgage is done I'm shovelling money into the give up working fund to boost my pension. Or maybe not completely not working I was thinking of becoming the worlds worst librarian or something to give me some focus. Replacing the readers digests with Razzle and the like.

Who wants to save it all till they're old.

Blow it all on drugs and hookers while you can still get it up.
