Just talking to a friend (online - she's in the UK - UK passport so needs to plan her next season!!) and she has both made me cry and made me so happy.

Talking about skiing (cos I've done that again today) and she said "bikes and skiing - you are getting back to being YOU"

Thing is, she's right. Today is only the second ski day I've had. And I can feel the improvement in my legs, my ability, my confidence. Similar happened when I started riding the Monster. I just felt so much better. I'm not sure it's good that my psyche is so tied up with the two main sports I do, which is basically what made me a bit teary, but damn I'm seriously happy that I've not lost my bottle on skis AND moreso that my shoulder/arm doesn't hurt whilst I ski. It's a bit grumpy afterwards or in the evening, but then I've only skied two days this season and both times I've done way more than I expected to do - or expected to be ABLE to do!!

So, Today - I've skied solo, skied with a friend and her son (who is possibly going to come touring with me, but not tomorrow as if I do it I'll be heading out about 6.30am - he's 19 and his Dad said that No Chance will he get up to my bit of resort by then!!!), then more skiing solo. Met some friends for coffee. Went to my favourite coffee place to talk some French, and some bike chat - also some cheering that I can ski without being in pain. Did another run and should have gone for a lower chairlift as my legs had quit!! LOL But I made it home

Next thing, I think, is to sort out the sewing machine Jody brought over for me and see if I can use it (hand turned one, using right hand  ) cos I seriously need to get on and finish some projects I cut out ready to sew. Whilst the weather is amazing and the pistes are quiet, I will ski on my days off. But as soon as either changes, I need something else to do! :D Oh, and I have to make a load of pastry to put in the freezer ready to use to make mince pies next week. Might make a gingerbread mix too :D :D

Beers and happy faces all round here. I'm sitting here watching the sunset reflect on Mont Blanc and feeling so lucky that I ditched real life in 2010 and came out here 'just to see'. I feel very lucky to live here!! It's been tough in lots of ways but I'm always grateful that I found this place :D

 :obscene-drinkingcheers: :obscene-drinkingcheers: :obscene-drinkingcheers:

Oh, and my UK passport holding friend just asked me to marry her so she can get an EU passport. I 'think' she was joking

Early bit of the sunset - colours don't show up quite as well on the phone camera -

Looking slightly to the right (towards the snow front!) and the moon is showing really well :D :D

A bit later - I could sit and watch the colours on the mountain for ever. Mornings and evenings, just gorgeous -

Trinity765 wrote: Wed Dec 15, 2021 6:29 am Having a hard time at the moment. I'm coping so I'm posting here and not in the "its ok to not be ok" thread.

My Mum fell off her bed last week and lacerated her leg. She's been in hospital since while they treat her heart failure (she has edema in both legs, below the knee).

She is in a great ward and being well looked after - we found a jewel of good care within the NHS. She was moved there on Friday and I left feeling very upbeat that she was in a good place for the weekend. She is having a medical review today so I'll find out later if she is being kept in longer.

It's not all bad - her package of care has been reviewed and increased and a proper hospital bed was delivered to hers on Friday and while she is in the ward I don't have to worry about her so got out on the bike last Sunday. It's the logistics that's tiring. Looking after her dog, working, getting ready for Christmas and sitting in a lot of traffic getting to the hospital and back. It took me an hour and ten minutes to get home last night, 5 miles. While that's normal for parts of London, I think I set a local record.

I'm ok, just tired and I haven't had time to enjoy or contribute here

Onwards....
I understand your situation very well. I was there for nearly two years of chasing social workers and hospitals,it passes in a blur of worry and frustration. Best wishes to you and your mum,it will ease eventually.

Hmmm. That was meant to include a quote about bidets. Not Up GTIs.

That's lovely - when someone knows you so well and can sum it so succinctly.

And it's great recognition of how far you have come, how you have worked and progressed. Well done!

Fixed the Triumph with new O Rings. Found that one of the ones I removed had a nick in it, explains the leak.

Sorted out the Tech side of things for a big funeral on Friday where we lend out Church to a local Pentecostal Community Church so they can have a "proper Church" for the funeral service. I'll light the candles too!

Started setting up a Mesh system for our Wifi as it needs a more stable setup than we currently have. Getting there slowly, just need to wait for son to finish video call then I can stick the final box in place.

Went to see a friend before my first transfer of the day. Got some spectacularly bad news about new covid restrictions. Did a transfer to GVA, another back to resort. Info on guest drop of incorrect so took a bit longer to drop them off!!

Home to have some much needed food then try and sleep cos starting tomorrow a bit earlier than today and need to drive to GVA bright eyed etc etc

But, am currently thoroughly depressed about life, tourism and covid. This shit really has got to stop. Many of us cannot survive another winter of restrictions (and because the resorts will be open to French, there will be no government help for those businesses suffering from the lack of Brits -French and English run businesses alike :( :( )

It's probably only temporary as the covid rates here are high and rising fast. But then Macron is always going to use it as a stick to batter the Brexit Brits with. High time France sacked him off!

We are hoping that it's temporary. Praying really. For miracles.

And yes, I'm cynical enough, sadly, to see it as a partial political move. But after the way the fuckwits in the Houses of Parliament have behaved for the last 5 years, I suppose it's only to be expected

Sadly I'm not sure that the French have many more better options than the Brits.

Either way it SUCKS. Soooo many people who had finally got bookings sorted and looked to be able to have a winter and get their businesses back on track are now looking at massive costs (staff are on contract so can't be easily or cheaply sent home) and massive losses :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack: :angry-cussingblack:

It's going to climb Kilimanjaro to raise money for a clean water well in a small African village.

Cancelled my holiday in November :( N/Y, cruise then N.Orleans.

The sale of my late FiL’s house that was funding it has hit a hiccup and it might need to go back on the market again.

I’ve got enough in spare savings to pay for the new bike in March but if the sale drags on not enough for the final payment for the holiday so rather than fret over if we get the money in time or not I’ve just bitten the bullet and cancelled it.

£400 deposit down the pan.

Oh well I’m sure we’ll find something else.
