The flip side of the coin with some of these authoritarian places is that if you know the rules and stay within them there are often benefits too. People used to wail and gnash their teeth about Singapore...chewing gum spitting etc. TBH the place was better without both and felt safer than lots of democratic countries. My BiL loved living and working in Oman and Singapore. I guess you roll with the downside and enjoy the upside.

What's even funnier is the people getting bent out of shape if you dare call someone a naughty name on a forum, but then screech human rights abuses if a government says you can't do the same and mandates a polite society. I like rules that promote decent family values type stuff and make sensible decisions. It definitely doesn't fit with the racist anti-muslim narrative of western media, but I don't like western media so meh.

The forum rules are there for common decency, we'd like to have all sorts of people on here, young, old, bikers, not bikers etc.
Having people throwing insults around breeds a certain type of forum and acceptable behaviour.
I don't want insults to be the norm here. You can call people idiots, din, fat, ugly and even a ginger, but there's a line.

The whole thing is just obfuscation. We have no idea how many people have died from Covid specifically, how many died from something else exacerbated by Covid, how many died from something else but were Covid positive at the time and how many others died from something completely unrelated to Covid but didn't get treated because of Covid.
And we'll never know because it'll show up how incompetent the government and the NHS are or have been.
Oh, and it's probably the same for just about every other country.

I don't think it makes much difference if it's 80% of covid patients or 80% of all patients seeing as only 11% of over 16s are unvaccinated.
Unless he's implying that many of the unvaccinated are there because of other reasons, then they are stupid and accident prone.
If we're picking holes in ambiguous statistics I'd like to know the meaning of unvaccinated, 1 jab, 2 or anyone without a booster?
I'm not implying anything, I'm asking where the figure came from and whether it's 80% of people with Covid in ICU are unvaccinated or whether 80% of people in ICU are unvaccinated.
It's not a rhetorical question, it's a simple, straight forward question, the only reasons I can see for not answering at either people don't know, or they made it up.

80% came from the BBC - who are always right and it was people in ICU, with Covid, on ventilators
And who knows with government stats.
I would suspect that many of the unvaccinated area more in the David Ike Lizard theorist/ Bill Gates is trying to control us mode - the man is out to do something terrible to them.
At the same time they are happy to shove recreational down their necks, and have tattoos. I wonder if they have look at the ingredient list of both?

I think you're fundamentally misunderstanding something: People don't end up proned on an ICU bed because of the government's repsonse to Covid. They end up proned on an ICU bed because of covid. They are there and have to be dealt with.
Whichever way you work it the NHS is fully stretched over winter with normal pressures. Covid will swamp them and prevent a lot of routine stuff being carried out, and not always for the obvious reasons.
That said I do share your view (hope) that this strain will be a little less virulent than its predecessor and the NHS won't be overwhelmed. Although, as said earlier, quantity has a quality all of its own.

The few UK pages I found for that were all opinion and no evidence. I wouldn't be surprised if 80% of Covid patients in ICU are unvaccinated, but there's some seriously dodgy reporting in the articles I read being presented as fact.

Locally it's, according to the wife, about 70%. Plus those who are in there and jabbed tend to have other stuff going on, particurlarly being immuno-suppressed.

I just looked at the ones that quoted hospital registrars and Health Trust people. There's a consistency across those. Some as high as 90% others lower. Fits with info about the protection against serious illness that vaccination is said to give. It's like Amazon reviews, disregard outliers and the truth is somewhere in the middle.

I'm sure the vaccine does work, it definitely does something because it made me pretty ill for a few days and has given me achey, swollen joints for 4 months.
I'd really like to know the general health of the people in ICU with Covid before they caught Covid, ie; are they over weight, do they have respiratory problems etc.
