Our Xmas party....which was looking like quite a fancy shindig....waw cancelled today. Budget has been donated to a homeless shelter.

Yeah our local Boots have them also. I only mentioned Hospital as some folk live closer to one rather than town centre for the shops and i was at a hospital tonight and noticed the pile of boxes at the door. Only two per person mind you

It's a bit better here for bars as we sit outside all year round, so folk aren't so wary of crowded insides. When we dine out, we generally choose somewhere with outside seating as usually have the dog with us.

I think that's the crux of it. If it was 6C your end at the min you'd have to not go or be inside whilst taking a decision on how many people there are etc and how comfortable you are with it. Which is essentially what's happening here. But's it's really hurting city centre places as their whole business plan only works when they are full. In the summer there was a load of outdoor seating going on and IMO was nice to do that, felt a bit more continental albeit with a big risk of rain. But now it's winter it's all to pot.

The impression I get from talking with people is that patience is wearing thin, but at the moment the masks, WFH, etc. is tolerable. Where people are drawing their own line in the sand is most definitely who they can and can't have in their homes again. Less so the closing of pubs and restaurants, though that would piss me off personally.
This where the contradiction begins: we've been told not to work with our colleagues, but feel free to go to a party with them.
Wear a mask in the shops to buy some drink, but then go meet your family for extended Christmas drinks with hugs and kisses all round.
Add to this the final straw of political hypocrisy that's doing the rounds and you can see why people are just plain tired of the whole thing.

I'm no flaky lefty, but what the Austrian's are proposing, ie mandatory vaccinations under pain of large fines, seems very, very draconian and worrying to me. I see the Germans following suit and then that'll be the European precedent set.

Mate how many times are you going to badger me to death on this, I can't help it if you can't read what I'm writing.
You could shut the pubs, you could make people wear masks until they're seated, no standing at the bar, you could remove mask use altogether everywhere - that's just for starters, basically do anything other than this half arsed illogical stuff being done now, I've already typed all this.
