Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
Not me this time but the Mrs is raging…
Ordered a new 1 series in September after being invited to the dealership as they had “high demand for quality used cars”. Deal struck, car specced and ordered, delivery expected December / January.
Not heard anything other than the marketing team calling to invite us to an EV test drive sales pitch session, when relaying the lack of new car, they said the sales team would call back…
That call happened today… “we sent a generic email out to all customers last month to let people know”
“Fucking generic email!!” She replied
“Might be available in February or March…”
“It won’t be Feb and it will be March and had better come with all and any model changes, a full tank of fuel and free servicing for the first year”.
We aren’t that invested in getting a newer car, it was just an option to capitalise on the equity in the PCP to get the next model up. I suspect the next call to BMW may include words along the lines of “I’m sure Audi / Jaguar / etc would like our business…”

Probably not actually
My parents bought a new Jag in Feb having previously bought half a dozen new cars from the same dealer. By September the dealer had cancelled their order cause they knew they'd never be able to fill it. They ended up with a very low mileage used model.
I can get all sorts of cars cheap through work. Porsche Taycan is 35 weeks lead. VW ID3 is 24. A model 3 is 16 weeks....

Our bin is full of packaging, cardboard and plastic, there is no need for it, other than packaging we have very little waste.
And the bin men only come once every two weeks in this country, back home they come every day.
If the manufacturers use way too much packaging and the bin men won't take it away then the only option is to burn it and fuck the pollution.
The new German Packaging Law (VerpackG) will come into effect on 1 January 2019, replacing the current Packaging Ordinance (VerpackV).
All actors, including online retailers, who bring packaged products, including padding material, onto the German market and which end up as waste with the consumers, are subject to the VerpackV and VerpackG.
The VerpackG applies to all distributors who put packaging into commercial circulation on the German market for the first time – i.e. both for national producers and for importers, online dealers, etc.
In addition, anybody selling or putting into circulation goods via an online shop on the German market has to arrange for the sales packaging and secondary packaging to participate in a dual system. The provider will in return arrange for the collection and the recovery of the packaging after use. This is why it is necessary to register packaging for participation in a special recycling system recognised and accepted by the German administrations, often referred to as a dual system.
AAMOI, 'back home', what happens to your rubbish, how is it processed?

I love the way that 'home' changes in your postings based upon who you're choosing to dislike/like on a given day.

In the main part of tow, they all need to take their rubbish and recycling to the waste centres around the place. But in our little bit, the nice council chaps come to empty our bins every day

I get pissed off about the UK because it's basically a third world country in terms of services and quality. Nowhere is perfect but the state of UK services is appalling and no one seems to give a shit, even fundamental stuff like getting a doctors appointment or having your bins emptied is shite.

Refuse collection seems to be a common gripe among ex-pats. My Mate in Spain always goes on about how crap our rubbish collection is and why its probably the cause of fly-tipping and litter as the bin men are selective in what they will and wont take. Can't say I disagree with him TBH...Potter wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 10:46 amIt's a new plant that processes/recycles, it's quite impressive.
Home is used in different ways I suppose, if I'm out then "home" is wherever I'm going back to that evening, but if I'm sat at "home" in the UK then my actual home is abroad, because that's where I spend 48 weeks of the year.

Here in the civilised end of the UK our recycle bins get emptied every weeks. Cardboard, glass, tin plastics. Packing boxed must be flattened and no glass or card in with the tin and plastic. Wheelie bin is every two weeks what is plenty and the system works well. If you do have to much you can either fill a clear plastic bag for them to uplift or take it to the tip.

Funny you should say that as since the first lock down the council did decide to lift the brown garden bin once a month rather than fortnight what was a stupid idea since gardening was a safe excuse to get out in the fresh air. Since then we do see piles of garden rubbish at the sides of roads now and then. Council probably dont care as it will either mulch down or its the farmers responsibility being on his land.

In Spain they would, whereas here most councils charge to take large items away.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 11:12 am My UK bin men come every week Never had them 'reject' anything, but im also not taking the piss expecting them to collect a mattress or something.

There's an area on every street where you can dump anything and the council pick it up.Taipan wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 11:21 amIn Spain they would, whereas here most councils charge to take large items away.Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 11:12 am My UK bin men come every week Never had them 'reject' anything, but im also not taking the piss expecting them to collect a mattress or something.
We just dump big garden rubbish outside the house and it's gone in a couple of days .

I don't think we (house of 4 adults) could generate enough waste to make daily collection worthwhile, and in these times of cutting down / reducing emissions it can't be good for the planet.
We bitched n moaned when the council went from weekly to fortnightly (alternate weeks with recycling) collections and replaced bin bags with wheelie bins a few years back, but we've never had an overflowing bin, they collect on Monday's, even bank holidays.
If a household can generate so much waste that a fortnightly collection isn't enough they really need to look at their lifestyle

Our bin wagons have 2 blokes stood on the back with skateboard helmets.
Not sure if that'd be allowed in UK?

This is definitely a point worth considering too.MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 11:30 am If a household can generate so much waste that a fortnightly collection isn't enough they really need to look at their lifestyle
As I said, we have weekly bin collections and they take all "categories" at the same time. We generally have one black bin bag of general waste and then maybe two or three clear ones of recycling. Glass and garden waste have their own separate boxes, and indeed their own separate trucks collecting them. We probably only fill the glass box once a quarter, if that.
If we had a daily collection there would be nothing to collect on probably a third of days. If you need daily collections maybe reconsider why.

Re: Insignificant/ Significant things that BYP or just wind you up a little
Totally agree a daily collection is ridiculously excessive, but in Potters case I imagine storing waste food in that heat creates a problem? We get weekly collections for black bag and recycling pink bag stuff. But glass and garden waste is forghtnightly. Its fine for us as we have places to store things, but folk in flats do suffer.MrLongbeard wrote: ↑Sat Dec 11, 2021 11:30 am I don't think we (house of 4 adults) could generate enough waste to make daily collection worthwhile, and in these times of cutting down / reducing emissions it can't be good for the planet.

Tis a fair point.
BTW when we've lived in flats - which TBF have all been fairly new builds - they've always had communal bin stores with big dumpsters. If anything they've been the most 'bin friendly' places we've lived.

No Working on - let alone clinging on to - the back of a moving vehicle is frowned on by the HSE.
But it was done like that (without helmets) in NZ when I was there in 2013.
