It could easily be wrong if (as does appears to be the case) the more highly infectious Omicron variant outcompetes Delta while at the same time having much lower infection and mortality rates in the fully vaccinated and especially those who have had boosters, than Delta. The measures being taken to try to restrict Omicron circulation thus may prove to be counter productive.

For example, a person's political position on a political spectrum:
Left<--------------------(position)------------------->Right
Anywhere to the left of this position is considered to be "Left wing" and anyone to the right of this position is considered to be "Right wing". Move that position anywhere in the political spectrum L-R and the same applies.
A person's assessment of risk also sits on a risk spectrum:
Low<--------------------(position)------------------->High
Anywhere to the left of this position is considered to be "Low risk" and anyone to the right of this position is considered to be "High risk". Move that position anywhere in the risk spectrum L-H and the same applies.
From what you have posted about only leaving the house a couple of times a week I would see you as excessively risk averse because my position is that I accept higher risk. And vice versa with some other posters on here of course

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
Lol I leave the house to throw myself down a mountain.
I don't leave less than I would before the pandemic these days, I don't do the pub thing and haven't for 15 years, sure I go out for a meal and drinks at times, bit rampaging till 2am packed with people, nah not for me.
I still do the mask, because I feel it's the right thing to do. But risk averse, nah I am not having that. I just don't socialise as much as some. @Welsh Muffin took the boy to a packed O2 arena to see Pete Tong last night. If I/we were risk averse then that wouldn't have happened.
As for what side of political spectrum, I actually don't know what's left and what's right, or what they do or don't stand for. Whilst I may not agree with everything the government do or say, I don't think they're all as stupid or selfish as some think.
But then again I don't know if the other side would do better or worse.

Low risk is near the low end. Left of the observer's position is merely 'lower' risk, not necessarily 'low'.irie wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 8:51 pmWell it all depends where one is sitting on the spectrum (small 's', OK?).

Almost 70 medics who attended a large Christmas party in southern Spain have since tested positive for Covid-19, authorities say.
Most of the 68 infected are doctors and nurses working in the intensive care unit at Málaga's regional hospital.
Health authorities said they were all at a party attended by about 170 people last Wednesday.
All guests returned negative antigen tests before the event but more than half are now isolating.
The infected staff were all fully vaccinated and are showing no symptoms, health authorities said.
60+ out of 170 - that's one hell of an infection rate!

There are "quite a lot of places" in the world, highly vaccinated or not, where mutations can, erm, occur.Count Steer wrote: ↑Sun Dec 05, 2021 3:57 pm All the suggestions so far indicate that it is likely to have higher infection rates in the fully vaccinated and previously infected. (Which means that any mutations could occur in a highly vaccinated population, which is, erm, not ideal).

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I'll be home mid morning today (Wednesday) and you know what? I think I'll just get on with my life, covid, delta, omicron, heart disease, stroke, dementia, whatever can just do what they're going to do.
I've had enough now. Enough meaningless data, enough speculation, enough lying and number fudging, enough tests, enough disruption ...
As far as I could see the UK is paying lip service to all this covid malarky, sure people are wearing masks on buses and trains but that seems to be just to stop the cocops from shouting at them.
I'm going to do some isolating on my boat, with a few friends probably. Then I'll go home, light the wood burner and start polluting. I haven't got long enough to give much of a shit about it all.

Instead of that well-known jingle, heard at this time of year, 'Holidays are coming, holidays are coming...' you may well find it'll be replaced with, 'Covid passports are coming, Covid passports are coming...'
Got the NHS app and your QR code yet?

I've had my Pass Sanitaire since May, with all my vaccine details logged in, it's a necessary way of life over here (if you want to have some sort of social life anyway). Interesting it will automatically expire come January, unless I've got my booster by that point, which is cutting it a bit fine - mine's booked for the 28th of this month, earliest one I could get.

Not sure what the issue with a 'covid passport' is? It's been a necessity here since the spring/early summer. Simple and easy.
Not sure why it would be an issue if you are vaxed and want to go out? Only an issue if you don't want to get vaxed and still want to go out?

Had the NHS app since before covid was a twinkle in daddy pangolins eye.
The QR code has been used once, this year on holiday, it'll probs be needed later this month for the works xmas piss up, but passports or no make no nevermind to me, hell you can close 90% of entertainment venues for me it'd make no difference to how I go about.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
British society has always pushed back against any need for officialdom, ID cards being a prime example. Scrapped after the war they've been mooted ever since but rejected as invasive to one's privacy. Maybe the stereotype of a German asking for 'Irhe papieren, bitte' is too ingrained....Noggin wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 1:09 pmNot sure what the issue with a 'covid passport' is? Same with covid passports. It does create a two tier society, but I would quote Freud who simply said, 'Fuck you, mate, I'm alright coz I've got mine'.

Yup. With our friends in France, seated at a table outside of a cafe. Show vaccination proof before the order is taken.Noggin wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 1:09 pm

That said, Foal has just tested +ve on LF. He's double vaccinated and has had covid before (he was tested for antibodies).

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
Surely though, if you wanted to go to Africa, you had to have paperwork (a card?) that showed you had had the relevant vaccines for travel there? Ok, this is more widespread, but also affects everyone, not just those that wanted to travel to SA. That was two tiered - if you didn't want the vaccine, you couldn't go there. Dont' remember any shouting about that!!gremlin wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 1:46 pmBritish society has always pushed back against any need for officialdom, ID cards being a prime example. Not sure it's about the 'fuck you etc' thing - more the "we really need this over and done with and get our lives back, and vaccines are seemingly the best way"!!
It's annoying that, isn't it. Me and a friend had the same, both double vaxxed and I've definitely had it before (before testing and testing for antibodies really took off here!!). But hopefully Foal will have a similar level of symptoms to us - minimal!!Horse wrote: ↑Wed Dec 08, 2021 1:47 pmYup. With our friends in France, seated at a table outside of a cafe.
