Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
Omicron and the response to it has come at a very convenient time for a government that is underperforming, and is lead dreadfully. There has been MPs second jobs, migrant numbers souring, Boris's pissed Peppa Pig speech and now "Parties at No 10" when nannies had last Christmas on their own.
Very little is known about the variant - the South Africans state the effect is very mild - but Europe is going towards lockdown. Once again we are asking to give up our lives to save the (outdated , under performing and refusing to change ) NHS . The NHS was put in place to look after us, not the other way round.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I suppose one of the issues is that even if the effects are mild, if it spreads easily then it becomes statistically more likely to create more variants. So even if we're all jabbed up we have an incubator situation. Obvs more so where they don't even have much of a vaccine constraint. There are theories that successive variants will become less deadly but that's not a given.Mr Moofo wrote: ↑Thu Dec 02, 2021 7:47 am

My projection is we have 3 more years of this fandango, by which time the next SARS, Covid, bird flu will be with us. Welcome to the new normal. 'Station 11*' here we come.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I don't get why NHS bashing is so popular, and it seems particularly mean given the circumstances (and while the government are being given such an easy ride), but hey ....
How are you giving up your life again?
I get that it's annoying, sometimes stressful and seems to be dragging on forever but here in the West we have it super easy. And we have the right to ignore the restrictions if we fancy it, with only a limited chance of anyone catching us or doing anything about it. Your main problem will be suffering peer pressure from those who will assume you're a bit of a twonk.
I get the impression that a lot of people are happily and justifying ignoring the rules anyway. The ones who know best and will never be told - my niece never watches the news, is unvaccd, and says "if it ain't broke don't fix it". Such wise words. She has a uni first in fashion design. Hilarious.
I get that loads of people don't have the luxury, as I do, of hiding out permanently and in comfort in my manoire in the sticks. It must suck worse than normal being stuck in a high-rise.

It seems in the UK that folk only wear masks if they are made to.
Folk here just wear the masks coz it's the right thing to do.

It's still mandatory over there, you'll not know if folk will still wear them until after the law gets dropped

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
Much of it appears to be about access to GPs which hasn't been helped by the latest jabbing plan. GPs want to do less GP'ing so they can go jabbing at £15-£20 a pop (while being paid for GP'ing) when, clearly, anyone with suitable training can jab. They've had hairdressers, pharmacists, St John's Ambulance etc etc doing it....I'd do it if I could get on the roster. All my 3 jabs, the jabber has said 'Hi, I'm Dr xyz' and I've wondered which surgery has lost a doctor.
Meanwhile our gleaming new local health centre has virtually locked the doors and I can't get to see the doctor for love or money. The ancillary staff are so fed up dealing with the front line 60% have quit. At the same time the poor sods at the local hospital are on their knees and having to deal with all the people that can't get to see a GP, acute wards are full, ambulances queueing etc etc. So, big up for the hospital people and my own personal for the GPs.

You really think the Doctors are just saying "fuck the patients, lets make as much money as we can" ?Count Steer wrote: ↑Thu Dec 02, 2021 10:23 am GPs want to do less GP'ing so they can go jabbing at £15-£20 a pop (while being paid for GP'ing) when, clearly, anyone with suitable training can jab. Not all their fault and some will be influenced by the £, some won't, but, from the BMJ:weeksy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 02, 2021 10:24 amYou really think the Doctors are just saying "fuck the patients, lets make as much money as we can" ?Count Steer wrote: ↑Thu Dec 02, 2021 10:23 am GPs want to do less GP'ing so they can go jabbing at £15-£20 a pop (while being paid for GP'ing) when, clearly, anyone with suitable training can jab. Doctors leaders have decried a decision not to allow individual GP practices to organise and administer covid-19 vaccination boosters this autumn, saying GPs are being ignored.
NHS England published a letter1 to GPs on 14 July about changes to the enhanced service package2 for phase three of the covid-19 vaccination programme, detailing the arrangements for the vaccination booster to be delivered from September.
The letter says, “We have considered carefully whether we could support the administration of the covid-19 booster vaccines at individual practice level. For a number of reasons this is not operationally feasible.”
So, instead of staying in the surgery, they're being paid to leave it and some of them are doing. Practices are then short staffed, people can't see a GP and some are pitching up at A&E.
Whether or not cash is a motivator the results are the same and it sucks.
PS If I appear angry you should read our local 'Nextdoor' forum on the state of the local GP centres

Guy that checked me in for my booster was a GP, jab was done by Sharon and Tracey from Primark. Seemed a little odd.....

Doctors say to wear masks, so that's good enough for me. I might save somebody from getting ill if I catch it unwittingly. Just my social conscience.Potter wrote: ↑Thu Dec 02, 2021 10:43 amYou keep saying that but you don't know it's the right thing to do, Thalidomide was the right thing to take until it wasn't.
These masks seem to have become some sort of cure-all, I find it really bizarre, they're literally only useful to stop you spitting water droplets from your mouth onto someone.
Anyone that wears a mask should also wear gloves so they don't spread the virus onto anything they touch, but they don't, the gloves haven't achieved mythical cure-all status yet.

Just had my booster, maderna. Nurse says it's slightly different from first two (AZ) and more likely to have side affects. Wife had her booster a while back, she's had 3 Pfizers. All good so far.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
Clearly not or you would have to wear them 100% night and day, at home, at work, on your own.
It's like "why is there a speed restriction outside a school, when it's 3a:m?" Because people need easy to follow rules that allow for the lowest common denominator, and yet are reasonable.
I'd rather not wear a mask in a shop but I can't really be bothered to argue about it. It might prevent a small number of folk catching the covid plague, jamming up the hospitals and preventing our loved ones from getting urgent treatment. It must help, a bit - the scientists are still plugging it - the government is the problem because they're injecting a certain amount of doubt into it, both by the actions of the leaders and by having rules that basically say "do this, but don't do this, if you want".

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I mean I'm not about to bowl into a shop (one that is "requesting mask wearing") armed with my bare face and perfectly plausible excuse for not wearing one, and face arguments with store guards and strangers. I think it's unnecessary, and a bit rude and silly. (And I'd have to fight my missus first, whose level is risk is a fair bit higher than mine). Unless you're prepared to actually do what you firmly believe in, then we're just cracking on and shooting the shit really aren't we.
I have to say I haven't seen many no-mask-warriors over here - odd because the majority of my neighbours are a right old bunch of supposed anti-establishment dullards.

I've seen on tv, politicians and medical folk urging us all to have our boosters. Surely those people aren't the problem.
