Docca, hope all goes well for your wife, and I hope you can cope with the stress, I think I'd be going mental.

Something interesting (or not really, but I'll carry on!) I noted this morning on my commute...
Train passengers travelling toward London mostly appeared to be complying with the mask thing, those travelling the other direction in to Suffolk, Norfolk etc appeared to be ignoring the fact.
I would have really expected it to be the other way round....

I suspect you've got a higher chance of being contaminated in London than Ipswich due to the higher number of people, also who lives in Colchester and works in Ipswich, wages are higher in Colchester (and it's a nicer town)v8-powered wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 3:38 pm Something interesting (or not really, but I'll carry on!) Bugger.
Mrs went to Spain for her Nephews 2nd birthday having missed his 1st due to lock down on travel. Only went Fri evening to Sunday afternoon. On the phone to me Sat she says she's getting lots of Britain is shit by all the ex-pats and how bad we all are for not wearing masks etc. All whilst sitting in a bar maskless and mingling Anyway this morning BIL tested positive for covid and Mrs and daughter were staying in their house. Magic.
So far both Mrs and daughter have tested negative so fingers crossed.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I've got 2 Swiss nationals doing some work for me until 16th Dec and they've just been advised by their version of the foreign office that on return they now have to isolate for 10 days, ruining Christmas.
Also they both happen to live in Germany and commute across the border when home, threat of the German/Swiss border being locked down which throws another spanner in the works - if they have to isolate in Switzerland and then border closes, they are stuck.....

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
So, it turns out that the test I did was in fact positive. The faintest of faint lines in the positive section (I took a photo and sent it to my mate and he replied with "sorry but that's positive" ).
So Stu and I both isolated from Thursday night. Spent a LOT of time on the phone talking about symptoms and where we could have 'found' the positive bits - mostly to relieve boredom cos we normally meet for coffee each day and generally meet others separately for coffee as well, albeit people in the same group. Anyway. We figure that my 'normal' winter cough and cold was probably the symptoms. So by the day I tested, I had already had those (in a very minor way) for 7 days Very weird that it can (probably) just seem like the same sort of cold that I get every winter
Anyway - I tested negative on Sunday morning, Stu tested negative today. He's had a PCR and is waiting on the result (cos he's travelling next week). I'm trying to book a PCR for tomorrow or Thursday )cos I start work on Monday and need to be sure that I'm ok!), but my physio was happy to see me as we are always masked and use the hand gel etc - he worked on a covid ward at a hospital near his home town last summer so if he was happy to see me and to say it's ok to shop, then I will take his knowledge on that. And I'm not coughing, spluttering or snotting now, so won't spread anything even if it was just a cold
I did go shopping, fully masked, simply because there was stuff I needed and I could shop for Stu as well, so one negative (by the LF test) person and he isn't risking his Christmas travel plans
But I'm still weirded out. From a group of 8 that don't hug or do the French bisous/kissything only two of us tested positive. He regularly sees a couple that have a kid at school - they were negative. How does that work. We've all been to the same places in the last two weeks - not all at the same time. The only random is that I went to French school for two weeks of mornings. But we wore masks in class and time in the kitchen/coffee area sans mask was minimal.
I know it's a pointless thing to say. But I do so just want things to go back to some sort of normal. I'm so fed up of all this. Had a few days of massive stress as I had plans for the weekend that I've had to cancel. I know things will get better and the Swiss have calmed down a bit so things shouldn't be too bad for tourists. But FFS

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
The swiss are being a bit odd. But, they have just allowed tourists to land in Geneva and travel straight to France with no isolation. So with luck, they will remove or reduce the isolation soon too.v8-powered wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 4:55 pm I've got 2 Swiss nationals doing some work for me until 16th Dec and they've just been advised by their version of the foreign office that on return they now have to isolate for 10 days, ruining Christmas.

I've not heard/read about the German/Swiss border, but I have been focused on the French border!
Hope things work out for them - in the past, if you are in a different country from the one you are resident in, you have been able to travel across a closed border to go home, so hopefully that will apply if things do shut down

Thanks guys. Very tired here and this wasn’t meant to be a look at me post. Frustrated.
I’m hoping that others have safe passage working their way through this mess. This was for an emergency, there are many many thousands out there in chronic condition hell waiting for life improvement treatment.

GWS Mrs D.
My missus was hospitalised last Christmas. Fortunately / not-fortunately it was one of those we-can't-do-anything-we-hope-you-pull-through scenarios rather than a fixer-upper job. So we're lucky that so far she's made a full recovery, or we're in the eye of the storm. Either way, hospital-stuff for patients under covid conditions is far scarier than in normal times - there's a real sense of everything hanging together by the skin of the teeth.

Hope she gets sorted soon Docca. You already know this but surgery for that has a huge success rate, although it needs to be done quickly.Docca wrote: ↑Tue Nov 30, 2021 8:15 pm Thanks guys. Very tired here and this wasn’t meant to be a look at me post. Frustrated.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
It makes perfect sense to me tbh. Going to the pub or a restaurant involves taking off your mask to eat. You may not have noticed but it’s tricky to eat and drink with it in place. Taking the thing on and off while you’re there is farcical.
Also, bear in mind that going to the pub is optional. Going shopping can be less so.

Yup. Don't go to the pub. Simple.

I loikes the pub.
Therefore, I believe I should have the right to go there.
