Re: The Brexit thread
Dietrich Bonhoeffer argued that stupid people are more dangerous than evil ones. This is because while we can protest against or fight evil people, against stupid ones we are defenseless — reasons fall on dead ears. Bonhoeffer's famous text serves any free society as a warning of what can happen when certain people gain too much power.
"The fact that the stupid person is often stubborn must not blind us to the fact that he is not independent. In conversation with him, one virtually feels that one is dealing not at all with a person, but with slogans, catchwords and the like that have taken possession of him. He is under a spell, blinded, misused, and abused in his very being. Having thus become a mindless tool, the stupid person will also be capable of any evil and at the same time incapable of seeing that it is evil."

Re: The Brexit thread
That was Trump's approach: if it doesn't meet your agenda label it fake news. And in your case 'moaning'. It got Trump a fair way - with a certain demographic. I don't think even he had the brass neck to try it with information he wasn't aware what it was .Potter wrote: ↑Sat Nov 27, 2021 1:03 am I can't read it because of a paywall, but let me guess? A moany person thinks that Brexit has stolen their future? Or is he complaining that the streets aren't paved with gold since Brexit?
Or another journalist writing some stuff that he knows will sell newspapers because people will seize upon it to satisfy their own narrative. Browse some more and you'll find someone else writing from the opposite angle - it's not news, it's opinion.
You're a real sucker for a headline Pony.

Ah yes, Brexit again ...Supply chain scramble threatens to spoil German Christmas
Europe’s largest economy facing similar troubles as the UK, which industry warns could ruin more than one holiday season.
With ports like Hamburg backed up, a shortage of key materials and a dwindling number of truck drivers able to transport goods, Europe's largest economy is now facing similar supply chain chaos as its ex-EU partner the United Kingdom.
Soon-to-be Chancellor Olaf Scholz had brushed off the Brits' woes as consequences of Brexit and poor wages just after winning September's German election, but the very same issues could land on his plate soon.

Nissan to invest £13bn on speeding switch to electric cars
Sunderland plant to play key role as carmaker says it will introduce 23 ‘electrified’ models by 2030
Nissan is to invest almost 2tn yen (£13.2bn) into vehicle electrification over the next five years, including a key role for its plant in Sunderland, in its battle with rival traditional carmakers and specialists such as Tesla.
The Japanese car manufacturer, which launched one of the world’s first mass market electric vehicles (EVs) with its Leaf model a decade ago, said it would introduce 23 “electrified” vehicle models by 2030, with 15 of them fully electric. The remainder would be hybrids.

I think a 'speeding switch' would be a great selling point.Nissan to invest £13bn on speeding switch to electric cars

A Number 10 source has confirmed it was Jeremy Corbyn who organised the 2020 Christmas party. For Hamas.

You gotta love it though when media/media savvy people get exposed by the media themselves.

Re: The Brexit thread
Allegra Stratton wasn't even the best applicant for the job. Several better qualified applicants were rejected. Her poor performance in the rehearsals was one of the reasons the actual briefings it was planned for her to do in the rather expensive room* never took place.
She is, however, a chum of Johnson's wife and her husband (the Political Editor of The Spectator, where Johnson used to be Editor), is reported to be a chum of Johnsons.
Sometimes, perhaps, it's actually wiser to recruit the best person for the job if the job needs doing.
* It proved to be well worth the £2.5M(?) it cost as it was a very good place for Johnson to be shown the latest Bond film.

I've recommended mates for jobs before and put in good words for them etc. But they're mates I originally knew through work and people I know to be good. So where do you draw the line exactly?

Re: The Brexit thread
So actually what you did was introduce them and give a reference? Presumably they still had to be interviewed and show suitability - and be better than any alternatives?Mr. Dazzle wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 8:49 am I've recommended mates for jobs before and put in good words for them etc. But they're mates I originally knew through work and people I know to be good.

That. It almost has me throwing stuff at the TV. They'll find a way to rehash Cummings and Barnard Castle shortly as well.

Re: The Brexit thread
I've just visited the BBC news website, it really is very pathetic what they consider to be important, if the biggest story is "Xmas Party Cancelled" we're living a pretty good country.

What would you say are the three most important news stories for their typical reader?Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Fri Dec 10, 2021 2:08 pmI've just visited the BBC news website, it really is very pathetic what they consider to be important, if the biggest story is "Xmas Party Cancelled" we're living a pretty good country.
