Can't catch a brake
finished work around 23.40, sat in a queue of traffic out side work and a guy in a Tesla modal X reverse's right into me, knocks me over and up to the front light before stopping, get out, apologises a few times, (he was reversing to let a car out from his left). he gave me all his details. bloody not what I need.
bikes seems ok, new mirror is battered and so are the bar end, the R&G crash bungs did there job, can only see damage on the left indicator, foot peg,
and to top it off, whilst the guy was helping me pick the bike up and saying sorry a private taxi driver was giving me shit, saying I drove into the back of the money to claim some money
the door man of the hotel (I work there) saw the car reverse into me though, so that's something.
oh the joys.

If Mr Tesla is admitting liability and you have a witness who gives a fuck what Taxi bastard says. No injury and no bike of the road so no great drama. What brake cant you catch?

Fucking Tesla’s……..
Glad you’re ok mate and the bike can be fixed. You’ll be alright if he’s admitting liability and the doorman witnessed it all too.

Be sure to ask for a copy of the onboard cam footage when you contact your insurance company, might come in handy if it's not been overwritten already

That's a bummer man,but it sounds like it'll work out.
I know what you mean about the mirror. I remember riding my ZZR for ages with no fairing lowers, then I saved enough money to get them painted. All sweet and new looking. Less than a week and I dropped the bike.

Re: Can't catch a brake
I got hit by an electric thing yesterday. White nondescript car. I was on my bicycle and he was parked at a crossroads, obviously just dropped someone off. I moved to pass, little more than walking pace, just as he he started to silently glide forwards.
He'll see me as I get to the drivers window. Nope, he just floored it with a hard right!
I was sort of expecting it and all I got was a gentle shove from the drivers door as I scraped my handlebar end on his bodywork.
Are you ok? Is the car damaged? His first two questions to me. Yeah, watch where you're going. Bit of a non event and no shouting involved. It's really the ghostly silence that made this a coming together. Someone starts to move but there's no audible clue to how fast they're going to go etc. or if they have indeed backed off.
The driver must literally have been looking down or at the sat nav, iPhone <whatever> because if someone on a bicycle is right next to your window, they would simply have to see you. Before the soothsayers dump their wisdom on me, consider this: if there is a circumstance where the driver is not looking AT ALL, would you really prefer to be stationary behind them or in front?
As I approached the vehicle it did occur to me that even if he pulls away and even if he turns right (from being parked in the middle of a crossroads) I would not be at risk of serious injury.

Re: Can't catch a brake
Obviously not retrospective, but new Regs are that they will have to make some sort of noise at slow speed.
.gov.uk
- from 1 July 2019, manufacturers must fit acoustic sound systems to new types of quiet electric vehicles to prevent them being too silent, improving safety
- vehicles will now have systems to produce a sound when they are reversing or driving below 20 kilometres per hour (km/h, about 12mph) providing greater confidence to vulnerable road users

That'll be noisy and confusing in heavy, slow moving traffic. With everything beeping in unison nothing will stand out. A bit like all road users with lights on!Horse wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 10:45 amObviously not retrospective, but new Regs are that they will have to make some sort of noise at slow speed.

Re: Can't catch a brake
I took a walk to Tesco last week in the evening. The route takes me along a quiet road when at night and as its a 30 road i could easily a new ish diesel coming up the road from behind. Soon after was an electric car and TBH the tyre noise was not much lower that the diesel car that went past. In the side streets what are now all 20 its the whine you are hearing more than tyres.

I think the point is that Teslas do, front and rear.formula400 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 11:05 amI don’t have a dash camMrLongbeard wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 9:37 am Be sure to ask for a copy of the onboard cam footage when you contact your insurance company, might come in handy if it's not been overwritten already
But it might get 'accidentally' overwritten.

Re: Can't catch a brake
So when they’re traveling at high speeds and making sweet fook all noise it’s perfectly ok

Re: Can't catch a brake
Tyre & wind noise at higher speeds. Go and stand on a motorway bridge. You'll hardly hear any car engine noise.

Re: Can't catch a brake
On a motorway yes, on a normal A road I’m not so sure, whenever I’ve been stood close to an A road I can definitely hear the engine noise, also when at a track you certainly hear engine noise which granted you’re going to get because of the spec of the cars but still I’d take that all day over a silent electric car, you may hear the tyre noise etc but it’s a risk I wouldn’t like to take.

Report immediately to the Pony's office for evaluation and societal re-alignment. There will be an induction to insect protein, using his successful carrot and (celery) stick method.
Best to wear loose fitting clothing for the first few sessions.

Re: Can't catch a brake
Well, the motorway might have a higher friction surface than a A road, but not by much. But what improvement would it make for them to be making much more noise at higher speeds?
