First, I don't really care, but I'm bored so I'll comment, I read Live and Let Die not long ago, it's pretty racist.

Do you fancy rewriting it and we'll have Hitler as a black Jewish gender fluid charity worker, that'll balance the universe nicely.

Not really, but as a completely different tangent, why when people try to rewrite history so that historical figures are gay do they never pick people from the "bad" side - some of the top Nazi party members must have been gay, they liked dressing up in rather camp uniforms and having parades.

I don't understand the obsession with all this shit, now Dr Who has even become a political pawn to be argued over.
It's literally a non-story.

However, if it has to be discussed, then I don't know why people want to bend stuff to fit fashionable narratives, like the aforementioned James Bond, Ian Fleming created him as a white British bloke, if people want a Nigerian female lesbian secret agent then they should get off their arse and create one, don't hijack Flemings character and butcher it.

I'd like to think the MP was trying to make that point with it being women's day and the women deliberately missed the sarcasm so they could carry on making similarly stupid claims.

Akshirly, if I'd have been making it I'd have cast Idris Elba not Daniel Craig, but not because he's black, I couldn't care less about that, but because he's a brilliant actor and would have knocked Daniel Craig into a cocked hat.

Edited...I think not casting Idris Elba as 007 is one of the biggest cinematic mistakes in the history of film making.
So I suppose I'm rather undermining my first point - but as I say, it's about acting and having the right person, it's nothing to do with political statements.

TBF, I've never liked Daniel Craig as Bond. He just doesn't fit for me. But hey ho. Not sure I've seen Idris Elba in anything (I'm sure I have but I rarely remember names of actors, just their characters!), so no idea about him for Bond!!

Bond is set in a certain world and i'm sorry to say that black men are and were not part of that world.

I get that, mostly. But they make the films set in modern day/times with modern accoutrements too - none of which were available to the original James Bond, even with Q's magic mind!! So I do give some room for changes in that respect

But that character just isn't female!! There could be a female version, just don't change the original Bond character - I mean, can you imagine a Bonde with PMS or menopausal???!!!! Diplomatic incidents and much more in the way of mass murder all over the place!! LOL

I can't really get super excited about it (I imagine most straight, white, western, middle-class, men are the same) as I'm in the unspeakably privileged position of being in the top % of folk who really don't have feck all to worry about. Those who do get super excited about it are probably also in that demographic, but have really got nothing else to whinge about.

They can do what they like with Dr Who, Bond, Shakespeare and ChittyChittyBangBang - and for whatever motive - it doesn't detract from the original.


Maybe exploring the use of 'trans Somailians' in reimaginings of classic film will (a) give them purpose (b) demonstrate that this could be a fecking awesome idea. Or not. It's more likely that very few would watch it - it's all very well being woke but money talks.
Remember that it's not so long ago that men determined that women should not be allowed to travel in combustion-engine-powered-perambulators above a certain speed lest their delicate hearts popped (this is probably true for Noggin, mind)
