No real opinion either way, but then that's mostly down to being jabbed and not going to places that would require one anyway

Woo-Hoo covid party!
What could possibly go wrong?

ROME—A prosecutor in the northern Italian province of Bolzano has opened an investigation after one man died and several others landed in intensive care after they reportedly attended a COVID party to try to get sick.
.
.
.
One partygoer who ended up in the hospital told the Veneto Corriere newspaper that he regretted it, but still isn’t sure he believes he had COVID. “It was a serious mistake,” he told the paper, adding that he feels sure he only had pneumonia and that the doctors told him it was COVID to make him change his mind. “It’s only propaganda.”

I got boosted yesterday, slightly sore arm which has gone today. My original vaccine was AZ, the booster was Pfizer, my mobile phone reception has improved.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I find myself between a rock and a hard place. Having been horrified to discover six anomalous sites of inflammation/scarring and damage in my brain; shortly after the AZ jabs, it appears I have developed two new ones.
The consultant neurologist tells me this is typical (!) for a person having my type of immune deficiency.
So take the jab and destroy whats left of my brain or skip it and risk dying from COVID. While I am sure some bright spark can't wait to make a joke at my expense, I dare not admit just how much this ongoing situation is already affecting my mental health. Either way, I know how this ends.
Meantime I really have no idea what to do. Since this Chinese engineered bio weapon has become epidemic, it's only a matter of time before we all become infected. I have to rely on the NHS to plan the best course of action and from bitter past experience, that is effectively a death sentence.

What will Covid passports achieve, you can still carry or catch Covid when you've been vaccinated, the purpose of the vaccine is to try and prevent you being hospitalised, you might has well have obesity passports, as being fit and healthy is just as likely to prevent you being hospitalised.

The vaccine does help prevent infection, and is extremely good at stopping you ending up on a vent. In our local trust 60% of those in icu are unvaccinated. Some in their 20s and 30s and otherwise healthy.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 9:25 pm What will Covid passports achieve, you can still carry or catch Covid when you've been vaccinated, the purpose of the vaccine is to try and prevent you being hospitalised, you might has well have obesity passports, as being fit and healthy is just as likely to prevent you being hospitalised.

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
I flew into Gatwick yesterday after flying from Antalya to Istanbul.
Marmaris to Antalya bus - HES Code please (The track and trace code linked to things like bus pass etc)
Antalya - Hotel - show HES Code,
Antalya airport - HES Code to get in the building, Vaccination Certificate, passenger locator form and HES Code required at check in (and a fit to fly cert, but that's another story), vaccination Cert and HES Code to get on the plane. Mask required for whole flight.
Istanbul Airport - HES Code to get through security check and HES Code and Vaccination Cert to get on plane. Mask required for whole flight.
And so to England . . .
Gatwick Airport - automatic passport check, walk through Customs.
Gatwick to Preston - nothing. The further North the less masks seen. Didn't see one person wearing a mask in Preston. I have a lateral flow test in front of me that I need to do today so that the UK authorities can probably tell me that someone on the plane has tested positive and I need to isolate for 10 days. Well, they can just fuck off if that's their plan.

COVID passports encourage vaccination, vaccinated people incur lesser symptoms if infected.Le_Fromage_Grande wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 9:25 pm What will Covid passports achieve, you can still carry or catch Covid when you've been vaccinated, the purpose of the vaccine is to try and prevent you being hospitalised, you might has well have obesity passports, as being fit and healthy is just as likely to prevent you being hospitalised.
When did obesity become contagious?

Re: Covid restrictions - are you adhering or not?
Yep it's just a numbers game really. A mask won't really protect you or anyone around you, it's effect is to slightly skew the probabilities of one infected person infecting another. Perhaps the greatest actual "effect" being to your psyche since the mask is a constant reminder to be careful.wheelnut wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 9:47 pmThe vaccine does help prevent infection, and is extremely good at stopping you ending up on a vent. Same really for washing hands, it is (a vastly superior) method for avoiding infection from contact with contaminated surfaces. But again, the washing and the fact that we all carry our own little bottle of handwash (we do don't we??) means you'll stay alert and be more conscious of shared hand grabs. Keeping your distance, same, same. A very small change in your personal and individual likelihood for contracting COVID when out and about is the best you can hope for.
The big but of course is that these preventative measures, if employed by large numbers within a population will have a MASSIVE effect on infection rates. The tricky part in insisting that people wear a mask is convincing anyone it's for their own personal benefit when the reality is, it isn't.
It is for the greater good.

Doctors and nurses all round the world wear masks. What stupid pillocks they are. Now they'll knowScrewdriver wrote: ↑Wed Nov 24, 2021 5:03 pmYep it's just a numbers game really. Methinks you miss the point. Masks don't protect surgeons, they protect patients. Masks don't protect you against Covid, they protect others if you have Covid, and by doing so they reduce the amount of Covid circulating that eventually will protect you.Yorick wrote: ↑Wed Nov 24, 2021 5:40 pmDoctors and nurses all round the world wear masks. Effectiveness of public health measures in reducing the incidence of covid-19, SARS-CoV-2 transmission, and covid-19 mortality: systematic review and meta-analysis.
Conclusions
This systematic review and meta-analysis suggests that several personal protective and social measures, including handwashing, mask wearing, and physical distancing are associated with reductions in the incidence covid-19. Public health efforts to implement public health measures should consider community health and sociocultural needs, and future research is needed to better understand the effectiveness of public health measures in the context of covid-19 vaccination.
