Re: In todays news...
Whatever happens I can say, with confidence, that if the Tories ditch Johnson they will not replace him with Starmer. The next general election isn't due for some time. The main question there is can Andy Burnham replace Starmer before it or does he have to wait for Labour to lose again?
So, who will replace Johnson and his ministers if he gets the heave-ho?

Which is worst, is there a hierarchy?
- millionaire
- knighted
- barrister
None are unusual attributes in the HoC. Perhaps Sir KS is actually a closet Conservative?
Even bland can be a type of character

That severely limits the choice if it's to be a Conservative. One of the new intake from former red-wall seats?

We need to start vilifying Burnham now then really.Count Steer wrote: ↑Tue Nov 23, 2021 10:01 am The main question there is can Andy Burnham replace Starmer before it or does he have to wait for Labour to lose again?
What do we know about him?
- fourth choice in a leadership field won by Ed Miliband. (christ alive)
- unionist
- very shouty mayor of manchester
- has previously been tarred with a "are you really claiming all those fecking expenses!" brush (easier to find a list of who hasn't though)
He doesn't seem like a very likeable fellow but he has a fairly humble upbringing so that knocks the 'champagne socialist' angle, in fact he declared himself an 'aspirational socialist' which is a new one on me.
He's certainly more Blairy that he is Starmery or Corbyny. But I dunno if he can be accused of closet Conservatism despite his 'aspirational socialism'. If he could work on not looking so furious all the time, maybe he's not the worst Labour leader. If there's one thing we've learned recently, the UK electorate are suckers for cuddly government "Don't worry about it, it'll be fine" policy, and lots of smiling and hand-waving.

Could be a closet anything.
Openly, he claims he’s got a cervix on the end of his knob.

Technically Starmer is correct, not only human females have cervixes. It used to be said that Corbyn was the greatest gift to the Conservatives, but Starmer has managed to surpass even Corbyn, aided and abetted by Rayner of course.Labour conference: Not right to say only women have a cervix, says Starmer

There's not enough space to fit in all members of the Labour Party and Labour supporters here!
Starmer is an idiot who thinks that being Woke, he'll attract the votes of the 0.000001% of the population that has a cervix but 'identifies as a bloke' and the 0.0001 of the population that hasn't got a cervix but thinks they 'identify as a woman'. Oh, and those people who still think Jimmy Saville was a saint.

Re: In todays news...
29 people dead in the Channel, maybe more by the time all are accounted for.
Why are the UK and EU authorities failing to target the scum of the earth traffickers? Sky News seems to be able to find out who they are and interview them* so why can't the authorities hit them?
Could be just a set up of course, although the media wouldn't do that sort of thing, would they?

Bad guys and gang bosses aren't difficult to find. Finding evidence to prosecute them often is.

As I understand it the majority, if not all, the traffickers are operating on the French side of the Channel for obvious reasons.Yambo wrote: ↑Wed Nov 24, 2021 8:19 pm 29 people dead in the Channel, maybe more by the time all are accounted for.

Re: In todays news...
The coastline is huge. I suspect the provinces are an easy target for bribery when the numbers are so huge. This boat earned someone £250k for 50 seats @£5k per person. How much is a local gendarme? Just have to turn a blind eye for an hour or so.Yambo wrote: ↑Wed Nov 24, 2021 8:19 pm 29 people dead in the Channel, maybe more by the time all are accounted for.

Plus of course, what might their attitude really be towards exporting "the problem"? There is a YouTube vid out there purporting to show le plod just standing there watching...
What I find curious is that due to the massive outrage, they were able to arrest four suspect traffickers before they even finished counting the bodies. Seems a bit too quick, too easy. I smell a rat.
