I love that, but I'm biased as the LC was probably the most important bike in my life.

You realise it's an XSR900 made to look like an LC?

And like you LCs probably were the most important bikes in my life.

Hepolite pistons, you'd be hung, drawn and quartered by the LC Owners Club for fitting them (I never had any problems with Hepolite pistons, the holes in them were caused by my poor bike set up)

I used to make 'em. :D Well, when I was a spotty student I worked for a while at Hepworth and Grandage but mainly in SG iron castings. Did a short stint with the piston casting crew. Pretty amazing the speed they turn them out.

same kit, better colour though.

at least the kit is made by Hag Hughes, who is an Elsie legend, apparently.

never owned an Elsie myself, rode a couple obs.

bit like a 1 night stand, good fun for a while but you wouldnt want a long term relationship with one tho!

There were big Hepolite/H&G factories in Bradford.
A few pals worked there.

Yup. It was by a big roundabout on Thornton Road? The back of the site was close to Parry Lane and, on Fridays I used to get sent to the Parry Lane Chippy with the order then we'd collect everything and eat in the pub a few yards away with a pint or two...which was nice of the landlady to let us. Best fish n' chips and chip butties ever and the beer was

I'd used Hepolite pistons before so it was nice to see them made, I X-rayed a lot of them at H&G too.

Blimey. Didn't know you were so cool.

Anyway, Parry Lane yes. Thornton Road was about 5 miles away.

I worked at Lucas Aerospace nearby. We nipped into the Parry pub often ;)
And was an ace chippy next door :D

Was it you that spilled my pint?

Quite a sophisticated set-up at H&G once you got away from the iron casting and fettling (which was pretty hellish). Pistons got X-rayed to make sure no bubbles/inclusions before machining. They had instrumented test bed engines so they could sample the pistons and test 'em to destruction or, more usually test new piston designs. They could have saved money and let the RTTL crew burn holes in the piston heads for testing. :D
