Yamaha R1M

Post by Le_Fromage_Grande »

Caught and passed an R1M today on my GSX750, it sounded shit, I initially thought it was an Aprillia, are they meant to sound like that?

Are they still cross plane? If so, yes they're meant to sound like that.

Believe it or not it's the exact same firing order and spacing as the pipe and slippers type VFRs.

I do believe it, it sounded like a poor running VFR, the noisy exhaust didn't help, I couldn't hear my own noisy pipe when I was behind him.

No, because it was an R1 😁

He was riding like a knob, very easy to catch up and pass, I just wondered if they're supposed to sound like a Superdream with no baffles.

Is the MT-10 the same engine?

When I first heard a Big Bang R1 at a BSB meeting, I thought it was a big twin.

Yep. A neighbour has one. They sound lumpy like a Scooby Doo does.

A Scooby sounds like someone put the plug lead on in the wrong order and left one off.

Heathen!
The Yam CP4 is one of (if not THE) best sounding bike engines there is IMO, along with the V4 Aprilia.

There's no accounting for taste (or lack of it ;) ) I suppose :D

Unequal header length 2002ish Imprezza FTW! One of the best exhaust notes ever. Definitely one of the most distinctive.

You could get the same sound from a VF750 with knackered cams and a rotten collector box
