Leccy MTB ?

Post by Yorick »

The missus hinted at a leccy MTB so she can come with me so might get her one for Crimbo.

Can I get owt for about a grand?

Any good ones at Decathlon? We have one here.

Or maybe I should get a used one from the hire shops. Apparently they are serviced well and give some warranty.

And advice appreciated :)

I think you'll be lucky to find anything worth buying for £1K, but you never know, start by working out what she wants to use it for and go from there.

Mine is superb, it makes cycling up hills fun.

Do you have intersport?
We found a better selection in the low end ballpark.

Bosch motor and work from there, £1k won’t do though. Start at £2500 and see what’s out there 👍

I'll get her a paper round.

Her AJP 125 only cost 2800€

If you just want something that your missus can potter about off the tarmac rather than rip it up in competitive mode there's loads of ~£1k bikes. Have a look at Halfords for some ideas and see what the Spanish equivalent has to offer. The Halfords Carreras won't make anyone go 'ooooh!' but as long as you can keep one maintained/get spares they're probably ok for general use. Maybe go s/h and get something a bit better but with a few miles on?

I've had a 1k electric hard tail and although it was twelve years ago I doubt much has changed, the electric part was reliable and worked well but the rest was a BSO. I did a few thousand miles on it with a couple of upgrades (brakes mainly) and for riding gentle routes it would probably be fine.
I wouldn't aim for anything pretty for that budget, they will cut corners elsewhere like having a tiny battery.
