There's more about trips than bikes. There's articles about fitness, first aid and photography. It's the only mag I read.

Sounds like a nice change from all those 'sparky knee slider comparison test' and 'the best yak oil treatment for the hump on your leathers' or 'best knee down roundabouts in Chipping Sodbury' or 'how to get even more power that you'll never use' type magazines for the 'sportier rider'.

I love my Super10, it's ideal for the mix of crappy roads round here, can hustle quick enough when you want to and can swallow loads of luggage when I go away with er indoors.
Tried a K1600 a few years back, feck me, what a lump, didn't want to get that slightly off balance, you'd never stop it toppling over! Too much weather protection for me as well, you'd seriously cook on it going anywhere hot (or even anywhere in the UK in our 'summer').
At least I can take the hand guards off and get some breeze up my sleeves on the S10!

I think the logical answer is don't buy an "adventure" bike, wtf do you want a 890cc dirt bike that weighs 200KG+ for, if you want a big tourer buy one, if you want to go off road buy a dirt bike.

I like to set off from home, cover the 25 miles to the peaks then ride all the green lanes linked by roads. It's a whole day out and 120 miles or so. Adv bikes are great for this. An enduro would be rubbish on the ride there and have too small tank range, a tourer wouldn't do the off road bits. Lots of people use ADV bikes for this and they are better off road than you think. Not an enduro bike but capable enough to enjoy the ride

There's several people in our local trf group that ride these size bikes off road. It takes more skill and balls I guess but completely doable.

There's no way I'd have a tourer over my 1190 adv. My ktm is a comfortable rocket ship on the road and I could ride it all day. It's good fun to ride and has a ton of character. Tourers are one class of bike I've always though looked absolutely meh.

I found my DRZ400S good for this sort of day out, it could have done with a bit more tank range and a fairing to have been perfect, I can see the CRF300 adventure bike (not sure what it's called) being perfect, but I think something like an big BMW GS you need to be very confident with for them to be useable off road, but having had Simon Pavey come past me doing over 100mph on a fire road through Dalby Forest on a BMW GS I appreciate they're capable in the right hands.

My mate loves his 1190 Adv R. He rode it across the States doing the bulk of it off road and he's done the Wales 500 Rally on it. Bloody rocket ship on road too as you say. I'd love to have a go but it's MASSIVE and too tall. The standard Adv is ok, but his R with jacked up preload is wayy to high for me.

The big adv bikes are near perfect tourers esp. if you're avoiding stuff like autoroutes and following the GPS into a few situations. The riding position is great. Tourers do give more weather protection but with decent gear it hardly matters. I enjoyed the performance of the K1200GT but, in all honesty the GS was better all round otherwise. I don't think anyone bought a Pan or any other tourer for looks though (even if the GT looked OK with the panniers off, to me anyway).

I have used my Multistrada on everything from Autobahns, back roads, loose gravel roads and some seriously rocky sandy trails up and down mountains .... all while fully loaded with luggage and it was faultless. Add in the fact i have also used it on track days twice already and intend to do more.

For proper off road i would have preferred something lighter but some of the big Adv bikes are pretty much perfect all rounders. For more off road i would have gone for the Tenere/ KTM 890 Advr or Norden type bikes. For the performance side the Multistrada is perfect with more road biased wheel sizes. For general all round the latest 1250 GS is hard to beat.

If you are a certain size and shape, a big ADV bike makes more sense than a traditional tourer.

I'm tall and fat, my old Varadero was the most comfortable bike I've ever owned, much more roomy than my K-RS.

Riding an ADV bike is like driving a van or a big 4X4 on the road, you get to sit high up and you see loads more.

I read that as KR1-S.

A stress position during interrogation is more comfortable than those things.

I'm also very tempted by that, even though it will do <250 miles a year, it's just something I'd like to own.
It reminds me very much of the TDR250.

I’d prob do 3k miles a year, I just think it looks superb. Although in the Honda dealer yesterday the best looking bike was the fire blade sp. I’ve no real desire to ride one but to look at it in the garage would be superb. I left the dealer quickly

What's the point of buying a bike to sit with all my other bikes that do less than 50 miles a year, if they even move at all.
So I could buy ten if I wanted, but I'd hardly ever use it, just like my other five bikes.

I rarely ride my GSXR and never ride the Beta. But not selling them.
