I need one - and know that someone mentioned a specific brand of copper / hide combo.

Think my Thor copper rawhide mallet is a number 2, was using it today to persuade timber frames into final position.
Says it was made in Shirley, Birmingham on it.

I replaced the rawhide bit a few years ago as it was past its best and you can also get replacement copper pucks.

Shirley is in Solihull not in Brum. The residents would be very upset.

I'd imagine a bat across the back of the lug with the copper face would quiet em down.

This isn't mine but it says the same as mine.

Thor the mighty thunder god leapt upon his filly.

“I’m Thor!” he cried; the horse replied: “Well use a thaddle, thilly.”

Heres the one I have and it is a number 2.
Thats a bit big and numb for a lot of jobs and I'd like a smaller one but its quite good for knocking timber frames into place.
I have a replacement copper puck for it but just not got round to drilling and chiselling the old one out yet.
The rawhide was pretty easy to replace though.

I will wait and see what mine says
( BTW I grew up in Solihull - Shirley was the down market bit - but not as bad as Chelmsey Wood)

The company (originally rather aptly called the Birmingham Belting Company) is still in Highlands Road near the old Lucas Aerospace building.

Another vote for Thor again. Used mine tonight to ease the sump off the Guzzi. It didn't move after the very first gentle tap, after a closer look with a torch I'd missed a bolt in a recess near the drain plug.
