Eye meds.

I managed to flick a plastic bungee hook* into my right eye last week (fitting a cover onto the car), hurt like hell, and yes that boiled my piss somewhat.

But the meds I'm on to help it heal mean that the eye muscles are completely relaxed for most of the day. Not only do bright lights hurt and cause long-lasting 'after-images' because my pupil is massively dilated at all times (so lets in more light than usual), but it's my dominant eye - so my brain sometimes seems to ignore what my left eye is telling it and suddenly everything is blurry and I get disorientated.

Fortunately the effects are only 'bad' at short distances, long distance is mostly ok.

* - yes I DID get the 'You'll have your eye out with that!" warnings when I was young.... they're not wrong.

Ricey, earlier:

(or at least, this is what you should be doing. It was the same for me after I had eye drugs as a result of corneal surgery).

I was out for a ride on my KTM690 and decided I wanted a flapjack. I walked into tesco with my helmet on only to be asked to remove it by the security guard. I did smirk a little at my get up underneath my helmet...

Image

But it also annoyed me somewhat. Why, when Tesco themselves encourage customers to cover their faces, does a motorcycle helmet cause such a huge security risk

Knee pads. :(

I'm doing a lot of crawling around in the loft at the moment (loft insulation + partial boarding). It's bad enough having to be a mutant limbo dancer/contortionist but every time I need to kneel, the pads aren't where they're supposed to be. I bought some hard shell/gel one that have elastic straps and they're good when they stay put. Unless I tighten them up like a tourniquet they gradually go south. Mate recommended the ones that fit into the boiler suit knee pockets...they're worse. They go sideways and are flat not shaped so I'm constantly shoving them back under my knees. :(

Ho hum...only 7/8ths of the loft left to do. :wtf:

Staple them to your knees! You know it will be worth it. Kneeling is so easy after that. Standing up a bit more difficult. :D

Wear them under your clothing, they tend to stay put better

Cheers. Sounds logical as the boiler suit legs tend to slide about. Went back to the hard shell/gel ones today, better than the slot-in-pocket ones. If I wasn't taking a load of old insulation out I'd probably wear shorts, but the old fibreglass stuff isn't v nice. :(

I use my armoured bike jeans for jobs like that. The armour stays in place much better.

If it gets colder I may try them but I think they'd be a bit too hot at the moment (they're quite 'fitted'). Got a right old sweat on today but the mask, goggles and hat don't help! The new stuff is much nicer to handle but the old stuff is ick.

Too many cowboys around doing insulation and I want to get to grips with stuff up there like the wiring...what's going where etc, give the place a bit of a clean, board out a storage area etc. It's OK if I just do 2-3 hours at a time. Feels better to know a bit more about the house construction too.

Far too many cowboys. I used the metallic film covered insulation at my last place, nicer to handle and rather easier to lay. This one has lots of insulation, but I had to do the boarding myself, using those plastic mushroom thingies. My knees have recovered, but it took weeks. As you say, knee pads never stay in place, never though of motorcycle trousers but I was sweating like a pig in thin cotton trousers.

I thought about using the Cellitex(?) stuff but it's expensive and we're not sure whether we're doing work on the house because we're staying or selling :D Haven't found anywhere we like better yet despite looking in lots of locations.
Main issue with the job is the multiple pitches (house looks like a crucifix from above) so lots of nooks and crannies and its an older construction so there's more timber up there than in modern houses. So you're always kneeling where you need to be working or trying to make an area big enough to handle the rolls of insulation etc. Getting quicker at it though.

I've used tonnes of Cellotex...never in a loft though :D It's the perfect material for building environmental chambers around test rigs! Get a load of Cellotex from Travis Perkins, lop it up with a Black and Decker electric saw and tape it together around your set up using that foil tape. Pump in hot/cold air as needed. You can get stuff up/down to -50°C or +200°C using it.

It's also possible to make tanks which will hold liquid nitrogen using it. You can then immerse your test kit completely in the LN2 to get it really cold. Probably best done in a well ventilated area.

Because they're effing twats blindly following 'policy' - pre covid policy.
I don't mind removing my lid in shops, as it happens, I think it's polite and if it helps prevent the old biddies on the tills pissing their bloomers then that's great.

It does make you wonder if compulsory mask wearing has triggered a huge upswing in shop or petrol thievery
