Post by Le_Fromage_Grande »

I want an LED H4 Headlight bulb for my GSX because it should generate less heartburn the Halogen one - wtf should I buy, the choice is confusing

I don't know if it has changed but I think it's still illegal to stick an LED in there as a replacement bulb.

I read they are now legal as the new ones generate a proper beam pattern and they will pass the MOT. But I got confused on Amazon and bailed on it!

Interesting, maybe I should just fit a lower wattage halogen bulb, I rarely ride after dark and a 35W would be adequate.

It's a lamp not a bulb, bulbs come up in spring!

100 watt means 100% chance of being seen.

35 watt?

Borderline sackable offence to call it a bulb when I was apprenticing.

That why I use a 200 watt headlight.

200% chance of being seen.

I’ve seen people equally insistent that light bulbs- I mean lamps- must be called globes.

See - if you'd asked me to guess, and it would have just been a guess, I'd have said the bulb was the screwy in bit that has filament and the lamp was the complete assembly of bulb, reflector, wires etc.

I'm sure it matters enough to sack someone

I'd call the entire assembly including the reflector the lamp but an LED doesn't have a glass bulb, maybe just call it the diode.

FWIW (not much :) ), on vehicles, a 'lamp' is directional. To be a 'beacon' it must be visible from 360° around the vehicle.

Best H4 out there is the Osram.
Halfords and Amazon do them.
