A bit of a COP out ?
A Sydney man has set an ambitious target to phase out his alcohol consumption within the next 29 years, as part of an impressive plan to improve his health.

Green Brighton and Hove City Council leader sorry after being caught flying to COP26
Councillor Phelim Mac Cafferty took a plane from London to Glasgow to attend COP26 on the same day he criticised the government for a "lack of action" over climate change.
THE leader of the city's Green council has apologised for a "major failure of judgement" after being caught flying to a climate change conference.

Very true. My takeaway was the waffle about chopping down trees and preventing deforestation.Saga Lout wrote: ↑Fri Nov 05, 2021 10:51 pm Greta Thunberg says COP26 was a failure. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland- ... t-59165781
At last, something we can agree on. Although why she would have expected anything else after the precedents set by COPs 1 to 25 I don't know.
Wonder how many active deforestation companies were literally destroying the rainforests while our "leaders" were congratulating themselves at our expense on this vastly over expensive jolly.
If they want to stop deforestation; have a five minute video conference, agree on a plan and send the UN forces into the forest to wipe out all the loggers. Throw them in jail, confiscate/destroy all their equipment. Do it again next year.
That's how to get things done, you have to do stuff. Spend the spare millions you saved on the poor fuckers in Brazil who actually live there - the ones at peace with nature.

Re: In todays news...
Rebuttal from Loganair! Came up on my LinkedIn:
Sunday TV didn't disappoint this morning, with another misguided discussion about domestic flights. Looking at the latest CAA data for August unearths some interesting insights:
- Three in every five flights termed as "domestic" are over water - connectivity with Northern Ireland, the Scottish islands, the Isles of Scilly and the Crown dependencies is all heavily reliant on air;
- Of the rest, half don't touch London - they connect the UK regions for journeys like Glasgow/Exeter, Edinburgh/Newquay and Aberdeen/Bristol where rail journeys aren't a practical, timely alternative (and on regional routes, are more likely to be diesel-powered);
- 85% of all UK domestic flights in August were flown by the three airlines (including Loganair) which have full carbon offset programmes.
We're absolutely confident that domestic flights will see the first transition to alternative power like hydrogen and electrical. That's why we've committed to being carbon neutral by 2040 - confidence that it's clear the Government shares given its moves to improve connectivity on domestic flights. And France hasn't banned domestic flights by the way; a close look at what they actually have done will tell you the real story - and what a work of fiction that is!

On the mean streets of Basingstoke, trouble is brewing....
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-ham ... XqKKO-KjKc
"Posters saying "It's okay to be white" have sparked a police investigation.
They were found on lampposts in two roads in Basingstoke and near Basingstoke College of Technology.
Hampshire Constabulary was alerted to the posters by a resident on Thursday and said they were being treated as a "hate incident"."
Three things baffle me:
1 - Somebody took the time to print and place these posters on lampposts.
2- Somebody else took the time to report it to the police
3 - The police are actively* investigating this 'hate crime'.
* Take 'actively' as you feel fit.
Whatever happened to common sense?

We all know that Bozo's a charlatan and a liar, right?
UK is not a corrupt country, says Boris Johnson
But that's only my opinion and you may think differently.
UK is not a corrupt country, says Boris Johnson
As long as Bozo and his mates are in charge then corruption will flourish.Boris Johnson has hit back at sleaze allegations, insisting the UK is not "remotely a corrupt country".
The prime minister said MPs faced "tough" scrutiny - and those who broke the rules should be punished.
But that's only my opinion and you may think differently.

Not the worst, but "Johnson has appointed a full 96 peers in less than two years, meaning the Lords itself now runs to nearly 800 members and is bigger than the entire EU parliament."
Interestingly given that its members are unelected: "The House of Lords is the only upper house of any bicameral parliament in the world to be larger than its lower house, and is the second-largest legislative chamber in the world behind the Chinese National People's Congress."

Wasn't one of the complaints about the EU that it was undemocratic?

Re: In todays news...
There's alos the point that whatever the Lords decide, the commons often totally ignores. A recent example being the recent furor over raw sewage discharges -
Tory MPs defend votes after uproar over sewage proposals
Tory MPs defend votes after uproar over sewage proposals
Tory MPs have been defending themselves from accusations they have given the go-ahead to water companies to dump raw sewage in rivers.
A proposal from the Lords to the Environment Bill that would have placed legal duties on the companies to reduce discharges was defeated by 265 MPs' votes to 202 last week.
The MPs say safeguards already exist and new measures would cost billions.
Critics say the UK is "lecturing" the world while its rivers are polluted.
