Are life style Bikers more death style bikers?

Post by Le_Fromage_Grande »

I know a fair number of "life style" bikers, I went to school with a load of them and have remained acquainted with them through the medium of Facebook, they've been dying at a rate of about 2 a year over the last 5 years, I assume mostly from unhealthy life styles.

Are other people having or had this experience in their mid 50s, or do I just know a particularly unhealthy bunch of blokes?

If they're all from East Anglia, it'll just be bad genetics.

They're mostly from one village, fortunately my family don't come from that village, we were forriners.

In todays news: 'people who go to sleep between 10 - 11pm live longer'.

No shit, Sherlock, that's because they're not out getting pished and eating kebabs.

Serious answer.

My crowd of friends includes some I've known since i was 16. The group expanded with weddings etc.

We've lost one age 51, massive heart attack.
Another, similar age, cancer.

One with dementia in 60s, another in 50s. Both still alive.

One probably on borrowed time from long-term transplant.

None of the above related to lifestyle, whether biking or not. It's probably just because you know riders.

I know a couple, both still surviving. I know lots of non-bikers in a similar age group, more than a few have fallen off their perch.

What's the definition of a 'lifestyle biker'?

Are we talking back patch clubs?

I read that article and wondered GMT or BST?

By the way, getting pished at home is well within reach.

The lifestyle bikers I used to know looked fit to drop in their 30s. I didn't keep in touch, hope they're ok.

Cross fingers, my peers (50s) who are relatively normal are so far ok afaik. That said, I've started taking precautions - less booze, more exercise. My missus had gone one step further - teetotal, regimented diet - after a health scare.

More patch club lite, so rallies, drinking etc at the weekend, but jobs during the week, mostly HGV drivers, so not exactly healthy during the week either.

Well now,I do both of those sometimes,so am I a lifestyle biker?

I used to be an AWB,but now I'm a FWB,or a hobbyist,or something. It's hard keeping up with knowing what I am.

I stopped drinking heavily 19 years ago, and drink very little these days, on the other hand my diet of meat and chips leaves a lot to be desired.

I think if you live long enough you'll see folk from all walks of life suffer from health issues. Maybe with bikes and bikers being perceived as a macho environment, some are scared to be thought of as a poof for eating healthy.

Who knows, habits of all kinds sneak up on you as you age. The lucky ones get a warning, the not so fortunate are like a good mate with various paralysed bits after a stroke.
