Re: RACCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCING... Time to get our act together.
Gonna be a blast for sure. I'm just planning on what tracks I'll ride on Sunday as I don't want to get in the way of the racers, but he'll appreciate the company going up, so I'll likely ride/push up with him and then shoot down another.
Sadly for me, the track they're racing seems about the best there for my level of skills

Looking at their website, itโs mainly black and double blacks apart from that oneweeksy wrote: โThu Nov 04, 2021 9:42 pm Gonna be a blast for sure. Exactly lol. Maybe I'll just be riding on Sat.
I did just watch a trail vid called Rooty Rutz, which looks he'll, but the same sort of hell we get Enduro racing lol.

Did 7 runs of HSD. Lots of fun. Pedal back up was fine. He should be golden for tomorrow. Letโs see what happens from there.

Re: RACCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCING... Time to get our act together.
Today was race day at Gawton. I'd decided before the event not to race and that was partly justified as the boy threw a burp flat at the end of practice run 1. Which meant a quick fix, check and sort back at the car. If i'd not been there and would have instead been out in my practice i'd likely have missed him and he'd have missed run 2.
But after he'd done run 2 i decided i'd sign up to race...
"sorry, we've done all the race numbers/timings and the guy with the transponders has gone to the bottom of the course now"
It was a blessing in some ways as my Cat was out about 90 mins after his, so we'd have been home a lot later, but i was also disappointed that it was a DH course i'd have been able to ride (as we did 7 runs each on Sat of it, clearly i could get down it) and the chance of me doing a DH race again is very small.
But anyway he went out for race 1 and it went like practice, smooth, simple and effective. He was trying a couple of new lines in practice and they'd not really worked, so "just ride the simple route and keep it smooth" was the order of the day. We missed where he finished in race run 1 as we didn't know the timing guy was only posting the results at the finish (which weirdly compared to most places it the opposite end to the car park.
Race 2 was after a 90 min break which he spent most of it jumping on the jump line instead of resting lol.
Again, smooth, easy simple and i met him at the bottom to see he got a 5th place.
Awesome job from him that and over a 2 min run he was 8s off the winner, but importantly he was <2s off the podium place. the course suited him and the bike though that's for sure. But it's a huge improvement in distance to the winner etc from previous DH results.
Happy happy boy

Re: RACCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCING... Time to get our act together.
Thank you. It's nice that he's made a bit of a step into the next group of riders recently, both in this and Enduro racing. He was off the group2 guys in the earlier races but has now closed that gap. Getting to the next one though which is P1/2 guys, who are usually head and shoulders no matter what race, well that's a different ball game.
The G170 did make it out into the race though. On the Sat we had befriended a couple of students. The event was organised for a charity thing to provide assistance for a girl called Casey who'd crashed at Gawton and been paralysed. Anyway, these girls were mates of hers and we racing on ยฃ200 borrowed Hardtails, they usually both race British Level BMX but neither were MTBers in general. In race 1, one of the girls crashed where i was watching and crashed 3 times again on her run apparently. But was unphased and was going out for run 2.... So i gave her the G170.
Happily for her, she didn't crash on the G170 and moved up a place beating her mate and rival.

Re: RACCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCING... Time to get our act together.
The weekend even without the results/racing was something we won't forget, with new riding and new tracks, to the pub we stayed in which was somewhat unique and the people we met there both at track and at the random pub. It's sometimes all about the racing, but happily this weekend was way more than just all about the racing, it was more the sum of it's parts.

It seems there's another race, at 417Flyup. Says it's on a blue which makes it either Cheeseroller or Blue Raccoon, we both know the Cheese well, but the other we've not ridden, but he loves a fast blue anyway.
Good field in his Cat, so will be a laugh and a day out anyway.
Only downside is, it's U16.... which is quite a lot older than him !

18/31 in the U16 cat.
Not sure on race run 2 as it's cold and we've headed home straight after bit he doesn't think he was quicker on the.
The winner in U16 was actually 16 and a giant! Huge lad and really friendly with it.

Re: RACCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCING... Time to get our act together.
He was a bit moody at times as once again he lost to Olly, his best mate. Total loss on the day, 0.18s. Both were slower in run 2, so he didn't get to beat him again. You could see he was visibly moody about it. But not a lot i can do to fix that.
There's another one, same place, same track on the 19th, so just waiting to see if we're heading over for that. I think if we do i may even race too.
