Got Another Bike, went a bit back in Time.

Post by DW. »

I sold my Tc250 husky as I ain't the spring chicken I use to be and the last time I rode it, it hurt me really bad and I think my mx days are over.
I decided to just buy a cheap run around to do a bit of scrub bashing with my 12 year old son.
Been about 7 years since I owned a pre-2010 bike, but got a bit of a soft spot for the old rfs. Picked up a tidy 450, 2007, very last of them.

They're alright. Be my 4th rfs. As you know, I'm a bit like you and can't seem to keep a bike for more than 2 years.
That's about my 30th dirt squirter.

I really regret selling my 14 ktm500. I was going to to buy another one of them, but the covid tax over here has just made them ridiculous in price.
It's heaps good enough for riding around with the boy on his ttr125.
The amount I ride it, it will probably never die.

Funny you should say that. I was supposed to do 2020 Finke on the 500, but covid fucked that idea.
I'm too slow now, not afraid to admit it. Rode at a super cross get together here a while back on a natural track with my Tc250. The younger guys made me look like a novice. 3 or 4 of them we're doing freestyle as well.
I've broken too many bones for that shit anymore. I haven't renewed my mq license since 2020. That's it for racing for me, just scrub bashin now.

Fair play to ya man, that looks like tough going and high risk. They get some speeds twatting along on sand.

I've got a massive soft spot for the RFS motor- I've had my (2003) old girl since it was a year old, it's been upside down more times than I can remember, never let me down and still only needed consumables- the motor's still not been apart yet , and in fact, the first time any of the engine covers except valve inspection, and water pump (replaced the seal once ) had been off was earlier this year, and that was just to replace the kickstart ( ) shaft seal.
I occasionally have thoughts of replacing it with something a bit newer and more glamourous (thoughts are always a 250/300 KTM/Husky/Berg smoker,) but all my riding these days is just green-laning and perhaps the occasional hare&hound and I honestly doubt anything newer would make me any faster or any of my riding much more enjoyable.
It's still top fun to ride, keeps on going and it really is like a comfy pair of old slippers now so I just keep throwing fuel, tyres, chain & sprockets, wheel bearings, etc at it and riding it

That's a great old girl @Tricky. I use to race a 520sx with the twin headers. It was pretty flawless.
I had a 2012 ktm300 2 banger and the Tc 250 and I must say I don't miss having to mix fuel.
