I mentioned in a conversation that my trusted HG Master V suit had a few niggles, such as busted wrist zip and knackered Velcro. He popped around the other night, took the suit and brought it back last night, with repaired zip, new Velcro, patch on the waistband where it was fraying a bit, re-blacked leather and some preemptive stitching to keep it going for another few years. Wouldn't take any money for his trouble.
I owe him a few beers I reckon.

One of the nominees for 'Best Related Work' for the 2021 Hugo Awards is a piece called...
George R.R. Martin Can Fuck Off Into the Sun, Or: The 2020 Hugo Awards Ceremony by Natalie Luhrs
Which is a blog post about how shit the Hugo 2020 award ceremony (and it's host George RR Martin) was.
It's like someone making a documentary about how shit the oscars are, and it being nominated for an oscar

I mainly enjoyed it when his hat came off, neatly coincided with his point of maximum peril.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
Just had a young couple arrive on our apartment.
They have a nice place in Bristol which they let out on AirBnB.
When they get a booking, they look for somewhere warm, like here.
They work in IT so will be working here in the warm. They get a lot more on their place than it costs abroad. And their flights here were £35 return.
What a great idea

Finding a bottle of red wine given to me in return for a favour and discovering it has a proper cork, not my usual screw top wine.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
My favourite red is '19 Crimes'. Corks.
There are 19 corks, one for each of the 19 crimes a person could commit to be sentenced to "Punishment by Transportation." The corks, which are randomly distributed with the bottles, have the name of the crime on the side.

'Crimes' wine has the most difficult to remove corks!
I cork the wine everytime. Don't have a problem with any other wines.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
Yup. I use a cheapo corkscrew which works better than my 'good' one. Odd.
Have you noticed that the cork is in two parts? Main cork, then an additional thin piece on the end - which can separate.
The knack seems to be to screw it in, start to pull the cork, then screw it in a bit further.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
That's not what that means! No wonder the Merc salesmen didn't peg you as an SL owner.
Isn't cork inferior to screw top from a quality POV anyway?

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
The wine in question is a Rioja called Muriel, 2018, so not as fresh as I normally buy.
I've read up on the screw top v. cork debate, 'tis academic to me. I buy on practicality and idleness.
I get looked down on by van salesmen FFS.

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
The original 19 Crimes red is my red of choice. And 6 for £36 at Morrisons currently; plus my 10% staff(!) discount - thanks to the e-card from Latvian Jean-Mumble from Thursday badminton.
The corks are a fucker however IMO. I'm not a fan of corks in any wine these days. I can't see the point.

Chance would be a fine thing. I wonder where Jabbo is now. Probably wintering with his aunt in Guildford, Vim under the sink and both bars on.
