That has to be a load of bollocks. He resigned as an MP and the only way he can be sacked as an MP is by his constituents 'recalling' him. Did his constituents vote to remove him?
I would guess if the glorious leader and the party seniors decided to throw you under a bus to save face there's not a lot of choice in the matter is there?
Edit: although it is more likely that, reading it again, he hadn't found out about the fact he would have to resign than the resignation itself...
